A poem about waking up when it's too late

It’s too late

Time and time again, I used your heart for my personal gain.

Using your kindness as a canvas for my selfishness to stain.

Filling you with my problems as if your problems didn’t exist.

I often ignored your issues and made you think only mine could be fixed.

While knowingly looking past you, I made you feel you didn’t matter.

I hid you from my friends, and made you ignore the dating chatter.

Using you for benefits, I made you think we were better as friends.

Getting mad when a guy showed you interest and guilting you to put it to an end.

Constantly stepping on your heart, I caused damage beyond repair.

Sorry for accepting your all, while giving nothing and calling it fair.

Sorry for not being there when you needed me the most.

Sorry for putting my feelings first and not trying to help when you were lost.

Looking back, I know that I was wrong, and I shoulder all the blame.

If I could I’d take it back and put you first for a change.

Right nowI’m at a loss because you’re no longer here to see.

I pray to God daily to send you back and just take me.
