A short story about a sinister hand.

Peterson saw the hand.

It had strangled the owner, Burt Kopler.

The body of the super disturbed him.

Peterson waited until Forbes Carlisle, the neighbor, did something about the hand.

He didn't think he could see it.

And that was all that mattered.

Some people told Peterson the hand belonged to Carson Gregson, a criminal; some say that the hand possessed some kind of supernatural power. Peterson thought for a moment before he heard the sound of screaming from the apartment next door. He focused on the old couple, and saw the Sheriff was there. The Coroner had ordered the bodies to be photographed in the room; the Sheriff waited.

'Peterson. I knew it was you'.

'I was thinking about the hand'.

'The hand'.

'Yes, the hand of my dead father. He was a killer'.

'Was he?', the Sheriff asked him.

'Yes. And he strangled his victims with rope in the nineteen sixties', Peterson explained.

'And now there's more dead people'.

'Yes. But, it can't be my father. He's been dead for three years. The only person who could use the hand was Paddy James, his cell mate. When Dad died, the doctors cut off the hand and grafted the right hand on his. That's why there's more deaths', Peterson said.

And he watched the Coroner, as the terror of the hand consumed him.
