Miss your home? Miss your Mom and Dad?

For the first time, I write my name

M A G G I E

Take some time to put each alphabet one by one and one at a time

With B2 yellow pencil on white blank spiral notebook

that Joy, my lovely grandchild, bought for me

He enrolled me for a class in community center

I am the oldest grandma student among nine classmates

Didn’t resent Mom and Dad for not sending me to a school

Was an illiterate for 84 years

Just had a hard life being a poor farmer’s family

World became a ‘hide and seek’ game after few classes

O was in Orange all the time

S was hidden in little snake when moving fast

A ha, understand why it’s called a T-bone steak at family restaurant

Sign boards and street signs are now talking to me

They are not the pictures or some kind of drawings anymore

I slowly pronounce each of their names

Joe’s marketplace

Little Rock Post Office

24  Diner

One Way with big arrow

Church Road

Bell Street

During last class, a piece of paper was given as an assignment

What is your name

M A G G I E

Where do you live

S U N C I T Y

What’s your favorite flower

R O S E

What’s your favorite dish

A P P L E-P I E

What’s your favorite season

S P R I N G

I stopped at the last question

What’s your favorite place

Eyes got watery and tears dropped at the white paper

On the wet paper,  I write carefully

H  O  M  E

The place that I couldn’t go back to for a long time

The place that I won’t be able to visit any more

The place where Mom and Dad were always waiting for me

I miss you Mom and Dad, and I will see you when my time is done here soon

Till then, Goodbye

Was very immersed to the poem and really felt for the main character. The joy of learning to read and write the alphabets felt real and the home at the end really made it teary for me. Thanks for the great work and hope you can show more of your touching stories/poems
