The judgement
He took her in the fields
Violated her
Without her consent
On her way to school..
She came home in tatters
Cried not
Wooden faced
Her mother knew...
The elders of the village
Put their wise heads together
The headman's son
How to save the day?
Marry them.... said
The wisest of the lot.
What a wise judgement!
Hear the village applaud!
The festivities jarred
In her ears
The jasmine smell
Brought on nausea....
Giggles and laughs
For the first night
Flowers incense
Milk honey oils....
She gave him the milk with a smile
It was late morning
When they found the couple
Stretched across the bed...dead..
The judgement of the elders
Rejected by her
She had announced her own..
She must have poisoned him first
At least she got to watch him die
That was something....
