An essay about the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks

9/11: 20 YEARS OF TERROR IN AMERICA

Robert Helliger

9.11.21

~~~
It was a normal day in New York.
People were getting their coffees, businessmen went to their meetings in The Empire State Building, (and other buildings); people went to Central Park with their families. A normal, breezy day in the the City that never sleeps.
President George W Bush, Jr., was reading a children's book backwards in class with a teacher, (as Michael Moore showed everyone his perception in his doco); then the screams of people fleeing in terror as the Twin Towers were bombed. The idea that the President had stolen the 2000 election after the Florida debacle against Vice-President Al Gore, (who went to win a Academy Award for his environment movie), was all but forgotten. Australian Prime Minster, John Howard, was taken to safety as he was in New York on that fateful day; others were dead, missing, or injured.
The darkness of that day, twenty years' ago, led to the longest war in history of modern times. It was a decade after Operation Desert Storm; it was something that wasn't on the radar of America; it was something that caused the President to think.
In short, as President Bush went to war, he thought the New War would be over soon. Sadly, (as the past is known), the Soviets lost to the Middle East in 1979, 1980. The radical elements of Islam is corrupted by extreme forms of religion.
Twenty years' later, the Taliban are back, and the question is: Has nothing changed over two decades?...
...As Americans mourn the dead,  and celebrate the anniversary under the President Joe Biden Administration, the lesson is not to go to war against an enemy that won't die because of their beliefs.
With the American troops leaving, the scar of terror still remain.
