Difficult to accept youth having said goodbye forever

OLD AGE: ACCEPTABILITY

Transition in the stages of life especially from youth to middle age and then old age is imperceptible. Line of distinction and perception between these stages is elusive. This gives rise to an uneasiness in the state of mind of the person going through this metamorphosis of life, leaving him or her bewildered. The concerned person is not ready to accept this change. This subtle change almost seems incredible to him or her. Though physically he or she has slipped into old age unawares, mentally he or she lags behind creating a chasm between mind and body. Sense of belonging is also in turmoil. It is difficult to decide as to which age group he or she belongs to-still to youth or to old. Group of youth treats him or her as an old person which is at variance with the self perception or to be crudely speaking self- deception of the concerned person leading to an internal dichotomy. Another poignant experience of life: The foremost being the non acceptability of the fact by the concerned person that youth has said good bye transforming now itself to old age- The second most: Old age having been demarcated by the society projecting self created socially acceptable do’s and don’ts for the people coming in the purview of this age group.
