It's a story about false beliefs and our Lord & Savior...whatever that means.

When I was young my grandmother was my entire world.  We spent many days tending her garden then we would prepare the day's dinner. It was on one of these days that she gave me a heart-shaped locket with a cross in the center and on the cross was a tiny figurine made of ivory. She said that the tiny man on the cross was shaved into the image of our Lord & savior right out of his own wisdom tooth after he had been taken down from his crucifixion at Calvary. She said that if the person who wore it believed I mean REALLY believed in our Lord and SAvior then it would protect the wearer from all the evil of the world; be it from man, woman, child or beast. It said that it would even protect the wearer from the dead.

As a child I fully adored my grandmother and was enamored by her blind dedication to a faith that had left her destitute and disabled but how that all happened maybe a story for another time. Because I loved my grandmother so much I believed in her words with a blind ferocity that bordered on zealotry or as much that could be said for a heady, precocious seven-year-old.

To Be Completed.

Should end like

"My grandmother told mea piece of ivory would protect me from the evils of the world if I believed enough.

She lied.

I no longer believe in such foolishness. I no longer believe that objects protect you from anyone or anything. The only thiing that can protect you is you.
