I was worried about my Lady, who hadn't come out of her room for an entire day even after returning to her parent's estate.

While I flung the door open, ready to reprimand her, and found her about to hang herself.

"Wait, wait, my Lady, wait!"

She was standing on a chair, and I lunged at my Lady who was just about to hang a loop of rope around her neck.

It was no wonder how she got surprised, but that didn't matter now.

We both fell from the chair onto the floor. Even though I had changed my position so that I was on the bottom, a chill ran down my spine as I thought about how I might have injured my Lady.

"I'm so sorry my Lady! Are you hurt?!"

"Ye— yeah... I'm fine."

My Lady's beautiful face was very close to mine, it was as if we were half hugging.

—A year ago, before she left for the capital, her blue eyes and blond hair, had been shining like jewels and were sparklingly beautiful. But now, they were somewhat dull.

It was so as if to show what was in the heart of my Lady.

I looked straight at my Lady and managed to open my mouth even though I was honestly confused and unable to think straight.

"My Lady, why were you about to hang yourself?"

"Was it because of the engagement fiasco at the academy?"

There was no reply, but the distorted face of my goddess-like Lady was proof of that.

The engagement fiasco.

For the past year, she had been commuting to the academy from her villa in the royal capital, so I, who worked at a mansion in the duke's domain, did not know the details.

But the rumors had spread far away from the capital as well.

According to the rumors, Duchess Aria Skyphoton—or in other words, my Lady was relentlessly harassing her classmate, Baroness Cleannery (hiding and destroying Baroness Cleannery's things, etc.)

She deliberately spilled wine on her dress, she was sarcastic and condescending about her being born into a baron's family, and she even tried to push her down the stairs.

It was rumored that my Lady was responsible for all the harassment, but I didn't know how much of it was true.

Apparently, the first prince, my Lady's fiancé, was making an effort to help Baroness Cleannery. (I don't think the First Prince would be intervening in a straightforward sense, so there must've been something else to it.)

According to the rumors, at a ball held before a long vacation, the first prince made a big public announcement about the previous misdeeds of my Lady and announced the end of their engagement.

I didn't understand why he'd go through the trouble of doing that at a ball hosted by the school, though... Since it was the First Prince, he must have done it to torment my Lady.

As for me, I don't think my Lady would do such a thing, given the harassment. But I didn't know how my Lady had been spending her time in the capital for the past year, so I couldn't say for sure.

So the only thing I could assure her of was this.

Right now, my Lady felt so trapped that she tried to hang herself.

All I know is that my Lady had been hurt without my knowledge.

"My Lady."

I've been in the service of the dukes for a long time, and ever since my Lady was a child.

I'm afraid to say that my Lady, who was three years younger than me, was really important to me and I would love her like a little sister if I was in a different position.

I felt fierce anger this problem led my Lady to the brink of suicide, but I could put that behind me.

If I had entered the room slightly later, my Lady would have hanged herself. It was nothing more than a coincidence that I was able to stop my Lady in the way.

Don't waste your fortune that you had, and don't even think of killing yourself again. I needed to see if I could get my Lady together.

Maybe this was just selfish of me, but no one wants their loved ones to die.

But then,

I didn't know what to say to my Lady, who felt so trapped she wanted to die.

I had received as much as education as necessary for my role, but nothing had prepared for this situation.

It doesn't matter how superior or elite I am, if I can't save someone I care for, then I'm useless!!

"I'm sorry to have worried you, Naomi."

Even now, my Lady was kind.

She called out to me as if she cared about my helpless incompetence.

Normally, I would have felt happy, but today, I was aware of the pressure rushing to my head.

Why me?

You shouldn't have cared about me! You should have cared about yourself all along!!

"But you don't have to worry about me. Just pretend you didn't see anything."

You've got to be kidding me!

What... What the hell is up with that!!

You want me to pretend I didn't see it? I can't do that!!

"Actually, I didn't mean it like... no, no. Naomi, please leave quickly."

"My Lady, let's splurge!!!!"

Splurge — The act of spending money extravagantly. ]

The momentum was already in my favor.

I had no idea how to say something confidently, so all I could do was say it with gusto.

Sure enough, my Lady was scowling. But since I had come this far, I couldn't go back.

I didn't even hear what my Lady had to say, there wasn't any time at all.

All I can do is try!!

"If you're going to die, then you should enjoy your last moments. My Lady has a lot of money to spend as a Duchess.

You haven't spent it well, have you? Don't you think it's not too late to spend all you can, have some fun, and then die?"

"What are you—"

"So tomorrow, let's go to the city with me and spend a lot of money. Yes, it's decided! It's a promise!!"

"You can't force me to—"

"You're not going to break your word, are you, my Lady? I'll be waiting for you forever, If you die, I'll be stuck here waiting for you only to starve to death. Don't forget that."

"Yes, now that we're talking, let's clear things up. You have a date tomorrow, and I have to make sure you have a good night's sleep in this room today."

"A date, huh...

—Wait, a date?!"

I was so disrespectful I could have been fired right then and there, but I'm sure my Lady will overrule it this time.

For now, we can still postpone it.

The wounds are too shallow to do anything right now, but if you're trying to die, then that's not happening.

You better prepare, my Lady.

I'm not so nice as to let you die this easily.
