I always loved watching sci-fi movies. If I remember, I have read just one sci-fi novel written by Michael Crichton. I don't remember the name now. When I was reading this, I was amazed with the detailed description done, even for a little action. It is difficult to create a suspense in the very first chapter for an author. But you have done it. I just asked myself, after the old man introduced, 'Do old men have to be grumpy always?' The character building is also good; slow and steady. By the way, the title itself is intriguing. I wonder whether the aliens occupy the human bodies to survive in this story. Thank you or sharing. :)

I'm not sure how I missed your comment earlier. I may have meant to reply earlier and got caught up in other things, sorry.

Anyhow, thank you so much for the feedback. I've read several Crichton novels myself. His works are definitely contemporary staples of the genre, and it's too bad he died so suddenly and relatively young just a few years ago.

As far as the title goes, there's intended to be layers of meaning there but I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I'll just say that "vessel" in the sense of "body" is part of it, yes. "Person" is another. But again, I'm biting my tongue here.

Thanks again! :)

Great First Chapter John! It was captivating and definitely leaves the reader wanting more. Your description of the dangerous setting we are thrown into is very vivid. You also stack obstacles against the protagonist without sacrificing the pacing of the story. Well Done!
