There was a boy who hated summer-

he hated wasps and prickly bees-

he hated weather hot whose breeze

was stifling and made him glummer.

There was a boy who hated summer-

he loathed the days of red June's reign-

he frowned on heat with much disdain.

Long gone were days of winter's drummer.

There was a lad who griped of Julius-

the season when the months are red

with summer's sun whose rays are spread

and bid farewell to autumn's coolness.

There was a boy who hated fire

with ire great that burned and burned

and yearned for days when leaves are turned

the colors like the summer-sun lyre.
