Ego trippin'

[Verse: Kanye West & Slick Rick]

Take the top off, let the sun come in (The Lord still shines on you)

Whoa, for all my dogs that stayed down, we up again (Again)

Oh, I got dirt on my name, I got white on my beard

I had debt on my books, it's been a shaky-ass year

Let me make this clear, so all y'all see

I don't take advice from people less successful than me

No Mistakes, Ye

Allow me to appropriate the final sentence of this verse,

and mangle it inextricably with my own

neurotic perception of the world.

Rather, the single word: successful.

What quantifies success?

That may seem a stupid question,

but will you humour a lost fool?

Is it money? "Of course!" you might say.

After all, how else is one to quantify success?

Is not money a measure of worth,

an indication of occupational success,

regardless of the occupation?

What other human qualities might be worthy of merit?

Not artistic ability... power of will, individuality, the ability to communicate effectively,

grasp of life, cultivation of spirit, courage, determination,

amiability, geentleness, kindness to fellow men no matter their origin...

To the avaracious I imagine these qualities fail so far as "success" is concerned.

Or does that clipped wad of green you hold tight to your thigh

justify the means by which it was acquired, so as to be conducive to "success"?

I think I know the answer, and see little point in spelling it out,

not for fear of confusion, but for expectation of hostility.

Respect, unearned, accounts for prejudice and scorn.

“You can be you but you’ll never be me.”

Kanye West

...

"I hate you, whom I speak of. Should you venture to antagonise me, expect my wog hippie spit to splatter unapologetically across your bald Babylonian scalp, and drip coagulated down your dull forehead, on its path to your barely literate lips, before your slow brain summons the capacity to perform the action of wiping with disgust the grotesque, slimy substance smothered leniently across your thick head."

Success is a concept created simply for the furtherance of competition
"Keeping up with the Joneses" is the sinful ideal of wanting something someone else has, a needy perpetuation of Envy and Greed.
It creates divisions of societal classes, that have wrecked humanity.
Those who preach "Success" are nurturing pure Greed and want, with an empty black hole, where their soul used to be.
"Success, Success, Success, does it matter? I been Shattered!"
~M. Jagger
