Artemi Panarin scores in O.T.

Artemi Panarin scored the winner in overtime on Monday night as his New York Rangers edged the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1.

New York is the first American based team that Toronto has played against in over a year because of Covid.

At the postgame press conference, Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe said his team has to work on the five on five.

"We haven't scored enough goals on five on five as a team," said Keefe.

The Leafs got some good news before Monday's game.

Star player, Auston Matthews was in Monday night's lineup.

In 22:53 of ice time, Matthews had eight shots on goal.

Mike Zibanejad put the Ranagers ahead 1-0 at 13:49 of the first period.

Zibanejad had a two point night.

Michael Bunting tied the game just 1:36 into the second period.

Toronto outshot the Rangers 9-7 in a scoreless third period.

The Leafs outshot New York overall 41-23.

Ranger's goalie, Igor Shesterkin had a really good night, stopping 40 shots.

Toronto's goalie, Jack Campbell stopped 21 shots.

The Leafs have three days off before hosting the San Jose Sharks on Friday.
