What to do with a weary soul and how to find the rest you need.

I'd be the first one to admit to you, that I've had a weary soul this past week. My brain just won't shut off! Have you ever had that? I think we've all had!! For me, I was just going and doing. Sure, I was still reading my Bible, but I wasn't allowing God's voice to minister to my soul.

So yesterday, after doing a few things, I said, "enough is enough!" I got out one of my journaling bibles, and one of the first things I saw I'd written was "Holy Spirit fill me up with yourself." Had I really been filled up with Him this past week? To be honest, I don't think I was because my thoughts were elsewhere.

I then was reading a little bit of Joshua. Not fast, but reading it VERY SLOWLY. Then I felt the Lord tell me to go to Philemon 1:20 "Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord, refresh my heart in the Lord."

At first, I almost gave up looking for that book, but then, little did I know, I was only a page away!! After I read that verse, it was like the Lord gave me the answer I needed. We're told in church to read our Bibles every day, do devotionals, and so forth. But how often do we rush through, and let it encourage our hearts? I'm guilty of it too!!

Our souls need to be refreshed EVERY DAY! Not by a TV show, not by talking on the phone to all your friends about your problems, but refreshed in reading THE WORD WITHOUT BEING IN A HURRY. We need to shut off our minds when we're praying and reading. When we do this, it renews us for the day ahead, and it allows us to hear what the Lord might be saying to us. Sometimes, I have to re-read the verse over and over, until my soul feels renewed.

As I close, I want to encourage you with a few things:

1. When you read the Word of God, pick a time where you won't be in a hurry. Read it slowly, and carefully.

2. Pray this daily: Holy Spirit fill me up with you today. Refresh me in you, Lord.

3. Meditate on a verse that truly speaks to you. Say it out loud a few times, write it out if you can, even if it's on your phone!

4. When you're having a terrible day, breathe!! Pull out the Bible app, or physical and spend some time in His Word. Keep reading it till you feel better.

Yes, you may have to skip a TV show, or talking/texting with a friend, but this is your soul that we're talking about! We prioritize what's important in our lives. I'm not saying talking on the phone or TV is bad, but we need to go to the person who created us in order to feel better before we go ANYWHERE or ANYONE ELSE.

May the Lord bless and keep you in His perfect will!
