I worked as a school security officer for about twelve years now. I new just about everyone who worked for the school including most not all of the students.
I take safety real serious, so I am stubborn some would say as a mule. I would wait outside the classroom at the end of the day around closing time to make sure that whoever is still in there classrooms finishing up assignments are never actually alone in the school.
Some teachers appreciated it while others didn’t and occasionally they’d complain to the principal who would take it up with my boss. But usually I would win the argument.  One night however was different. I had my Buddy Rodger was helping me out as well. He’s been security for about eight years.
I’m good friends with him and his wife. We were searching the hallways to make sure everyone was out of the school so we could close for the night. Just when we thought we were safe to close I heard a bell ring. It wasn’t one of the school’s bells this bell was from a wrist watch perhaps a students.
We walked down the hall towards the class room where the bell was ringing.
I opened the door and froze the window was wide opened. I told Rodger who immediately ran down the halls to make another thorough look. After about a good two hours we reconvened in the hallway near the main door.
We didn’t find anyone and we had checked everywhere. We called the local police department and our boss to tell them what happened. The best the police could do was send an officer to look over the school. We were told we could leave for the night. I didn’t feel good leaving I know we did t actually see anything  but if someone had broken into the school and we’re waiting for something I would feel horrible.
I stayed till the officer came. Together we searched the school and decided to check the security cameras and to my horror we saw a man around 9:30 pm open up the window. He searched three a desk and walked out the hallway. At one point he was right behind Rodger. He ran to “classroom D” and we never saw him leave. “He must still be in there be careful” the officer said to me. As we approached the classroom and I opened the door up immediately a bucket fell from the top of the door.
He had set an alarm trap. “I know your in here show yourself.” I yelled out. As we searched the rows of desks. Suddenly I approached the window as my heart sank I saw a man running away. The officer saw him as well. The door next to the classroom was an exit so we both ran out the school after the man.
To my horror as we arrived I fell down and sprained my ankle. The officer watched with me as we were now surrounded By about a half dozen people. We realized they were homeless. We weren’t going to have them arrested or anything. Because we felt bad.
Then one of the men walked up to us and said “sorry you found us. We leave you no harm that was Jimmy he is sloppy.” “I am not!” Jimmy said. “Anyhow we are homeless you see and we have been sneaking into that school for the last 8 years at night it’s never been a problem before we leave before the kids arrive.
Sometimes on bad nights we used to stay in the buses to dry off that was before Your Buddy started to forget about checking the windows at night and that’s how we got in.” I got sudden chills listening to this mans confession. For the passed 8 years they have been breaking into the school just for a place to be safe. Who knows if these guys were actually telling the truth maybe they were living inside the school when school was in session daily. And we just found out. They seem like they pose no harm but how do we know? This was a bad situation fir all of us.e night however was different. I had my Buddy Rodger was helping me out as well.
