DEMONS AND DEVILS, AND RED-HATTED BEASTS

By Al Garcia

There was always evil in the world.  It used to hide, once upon a time, beneath the surface of congenial faces and in pious places.  It used to confuse, befuddle and confound ordinary minds with cunning and canny inflections of human conceptions.

The devil has always been in the details of deception and duplicity, and in mastering the art of the deal.  There was always evil in the world.  It was just a matter of who would take the devil by the horns and proclaim the golden age of grifting, flimflamming and suckering, and make himself the symbol of personified evil for the 21st century.  Repackaged and rewrapped.  But still the evil that beguiles and charms and lures the lost and the weak into the darkness of its shade and embrace.

We are in the midst of the biblical battle of good over evil, of truth over lies, and right over wrong, and the red caps are winning.  The bedeviling of innocence has torn asunder the very fabric of creation, and set ablaze the tapestry of centuries of knowledge, awareness and understanding.  And left, are ashes and remnants of civility and morality that cannot sustain the weight of our humanity.

There was always evil in the world.  There have always been vile and atrocious men whose evil minds cannot perceive of a world without strings to be pulled, without bodies and minds to be controlled or snuffed out, or without dreams and hopes to be crushed and squashed beneath Jackboots and iron fists.

America’s landscape is transforming itself into a perfect sphere of fear.  Where the lust for power, dominance and control is destroying the spirit and the flame that used to burn inside the patriot hearts and minds of all who once believed in truth, in hope, and in themselves.

The demons and devils of our past have returned in the form of red-hatted beasts, and they have overrun and snatched the citadel of our freedom, and set ablaze the ideas and ideals that defined us, explained us, and once sheltered us from the evil that laid hidden in the hearts of men.
