This is an Idiom

Zacchaeus was a tax collector who was short in stature and when I heard that Jesus was coming, he climbed on a tree to receive him. And when Jesus passed by he asked Zacchaeus to come down and he did and he repented of his sins of extortion and gave back to the people all what he earned corruptly.

Zacchaeus as an idiom means a person who is repentant of his or her transgressions.

I have been a Zacchaeus many a time.

I wonder if Zacchaeus genuinely reformed his immoral behaviour, or was simply pressured by the imposition of a virtuous man, and perhaps the dogged masses that accompanied him. In other words, does Zacchaeus simply become decent after the fact, humble maybe, or does he just become a hypocrite, a false man, a guardian of false virtue, a senseless preacher, in the wake of putative divine affection? I wonder.
