You hated the skeletons placed here, last year. Complained about the tombstones on the steps, and the fake ghosts hanging from the desiccated lilac bush. This year we’ll hand out real candy! Forget the cheap mix you buy at the dollar store. And I think between the apple trees, a centerpiece to scare the children. Not the tame Jack-o-lantern display you carved by hand last year. No, this year, a scarecrow, with the hands nailed to its head, a bucket at the feet filled with candy bars, the mouth sewn shut.
Yes, Halloween will be so much better this year.
