The Dreamer

I wanted to go sailing on a grand tall ship

Across the ocean blue!

But mommy said ‘no, it’s time for your bath’

So I settled for a ducky or two

I wanted to go flying through outer space

Faster than the speed of light!

But mommy said ‘no, it was time for bed

There would be no light at night’

I asked mommy why she always said ‘no’

To my great and gloriest plans

She said it was so I’d have something to do

When I became a man

These are the words I found in my diary

Up in an old attic steamer

By her letting me think, I could do all those things

I’ve remained to this day a dreamer

When my child wants to do something wild

And proposes the greatest of schemes

I can’t help but smile and say ‘in a while

You can do it all in your dreams’
