FASHION FLASH

This was a new fashion section.  It focused on the latest fashion trends.

-Lace Up Details

Lace details ( similar to shoe laces ) were hip.  Here they feature a red denim jacket with white lace details at the back.

-Hard Sided Box Bags

These bags came in all sorts of styles.  Some looked like hat boxes.  Others look like mini-steamer trunks.  They were all equally stylish.

-Backwards Clothing

According to TEEN, wearing your clothes on backwards was " hip" in 1993.  I can't really agree on this one.  And also, it's unclear if TEEN was saying this was a trend that was happening "now" or was supposed to be popular later in 1993.

WHAT's OUT FOR 1993

So according to TEEN, what trends were out for 1993?

-ACID WASHED DENIM

-FUR

-MOD STYLES SIMILAR TO ONES FROM 1960s

-PANTS TUCKED INTO BOOTS

-FLASHY LOGOS

-NEON ( IN SPORTWEAR, SHOES, AND ACCESSORIES)

-PATENT LEATHER ACCESSORIES

-WATCH RINGS

-METALLICS ( IN ACCESSORIES)

-DECORATED SANDALS

-THIN BELTS

In 1992, it was popular to wear stirrup pants so that you could tuck your pants into your boots.  But apparently by 1993, this became passé.  And I guess people got tired of the CHANEL logo being everywhere ( in clothing and bags) so this led to a dislike of flashy logos on clothing.

A lot of these styles tho had a comeback later in the decade.  Among these were fur, leather and metallic accessories, MOD styles, decorated sandals and skinny belts.

WHAT's IN FOR 1993?

First I'll include styles I remember were popular in 1993.  Then I'll mention the styles that TEEN claimed would be popular in 1993.

-VINTAGE DRESSES

Sometimes known as "granny" dresses, these dresses were usually long, slightly loose and had a small floral print ( which I've sometimes heard referred to as micro floral).  These were usually paired with vintage style lace up boots.  The dress could be worn alone or under a knit, crochet or lace vest.

-HOODED TOPS

This style included hooded sweatshirts, t-shirts as well as anoraks.  They came in all kinds of colors, styles and fabrics.

-FLORALS

A popular print, florals came in many styles.  From large florals to micro-florals, you'd see them on dresses, vests, tops and even shorts.  The rose was a popular choice, but so were sunflowers and daisies.

-STRIPES

Just as popular as the floral print.  From wide to skinny, from horizontal to vertical ( and in some cases, both at the same time).

-MIXED MEDIA

This term referred to a combination of two or more styles of prints ( or fabrics).  For example, in the early 1990s it was common to see a shirt that combined stripes and florals, or maybe plaid flannel with denim.
