The Differences Between Good Friends and Bad Friends

It has been my observation that good friends listen much and speak little. They tell you honestly and respectfully of your flaws in private so that you can improve yourself, but openly they say only good things about you. In contrast, bad friends listen little and speak much. They constantly ridicule you in front of others, in order to make themselves feel better about their own petty insecurities. At the same time, they privately give you many false compliments in order to flatter you into doing things for them. Then, when they get what they want, they forget all about you. Thus, they artificially inflate your self esteem to a much greater size than is appropriate. Then, when you find out that everything which they said was a complete lie and you're not as awesome as they said you were, it is much worse than if they had simply been honest with you in the first place.
