Chapter 11

Today we find out what’s been going on with Melanie. If she talks. She has to talk, open up to us, we only want to help. I need an explanation, with her kids having to sleep at my house last time. There must be something up between her and Derrick. Whatever the problem is with her, I hope it’s not too serious, I have the date with Mike tonight. Gosh, I don’t want to have another awkward date. If this one is I am giving up on this man. Mavis being fired, I have a none porn watching friend to drop Zack at; At least no watching or doing porn when kids are in the house. Cameron was my first option since I’m a little worried about Meagan’s preoccupations at this point.

I’ve been up for a while. It’s now 11 o’clock and I’m finally getting out of bed. Zack has been up since 6 am, watching his favorite cartoons. Kids have so much energy, especially when it’s the weekend and they’re not waking up to go to school.

I walk to the kitchen the kitchen for a cup of coffee and breakfast.

“Hey Zack, how about that late breakfast with your mommy?” I ask my son he hasn’t even bothered to acknowledge my showing up in the room.

“Bacon and eggs!” He answers, managing to look both excited about the food and distracted by his television show.

I’m going to enjoy breakfast with my son before the day ahead.

This time I’m prepared for this date. There are no lies I have to confess about, so I’m ready to enjoy myself. If I don’t, I’m no longer accepting calls from him. That will be the end of it. And I’ll be sure to get a membership at another gym. As I pull out what I want to wear- skinny blue jeans and a flattering colorful top, because Mike said this would be a casual outing- the doorbell rings. It must be Cameron here to wait for Meagan to show up. I look at the time and realize I’m choosing my clothes for my date pretty early. Unlike the time with Mavis, I will not have to worry about Cameron showing up on time. More than on time she’s pretty early if she’s behind that door.

I walk across the living room in the white tank top and grey washed out track suit I’ve got on. I’m not going anywhere until tonight anyway. When I open the door, I am happy to see my Cameron behind the door.

“Hey baby!” I say a little more excited than I thought I would be.

“Hello” she says with a smile that is missing the usual glow, “Look at you all excited”

“This is the heavens giving me a second chance at a relationship with Mike. I’m happy”

“Well, I’m glad. You have fun tonight, you don’t have to worry about any unwanted viewing with Zack”

“Thanks, I owe you one Cam”

“I’m here for you always”

She is here for me always, because at this moment in time, I sense she is dealing with something of her own. Yet she is still here.

“Show me your outfit” She says after giving me a weak smile and hugging Zack on the way to my room.

“It’s a casual date, so don’t be horrified when you see my very casual look”

“I’ll try not to be doll” A weak laugh this time.

What’s going on with her?

I debate with myself on asking her what’s on her mind or letting it go until later.

I decide on waiting. I know her, she’ll say “Not on your night” or “Later”.

It’s decided, I’ll have to ask later.

“We’ll talk about it when you’re ready hey?” I say giving her as comforting a smile as I can give her.

“You’ve managed to read through my smile once again” She holds back a few tears “Okay, but not tonight, tonight’s your night. Now show me the horribly casual outfit you’ve got there!”

When I show her the jeans and the top, Cameron manages to say surprisingly calm. When I show her the flats I plan to wear however, she almost loses it.

“Where did he say he was planning on taking you in the first place?” She says, opening her eyes wide, horrified.

“I guess it’s a very casual date Cam”

“The only casual dates I accept, is if he takes you to an amusement park, at night, just the two of you, that way there are no queues!”

“Honey, that sounds like a horror movie to me! So much easier to kill at night, in the dark, when you’re alone with a guy” I say truthfully and jokingly at the same time.

“Gosh, you’re right. Better through in a few people in the park then!” She answers back, full of wit.

“So what do you think about the outfit though?” I ask, a little concerned about my choice now.

“I think you’re taking the term casual, a little too literally” she says in all honesty

“Find me something fabulously casual to wear then Diva”

“I sure will!”

That being said, Cameron pulls out a purple, tight and sexy dress, black simple heals gold accessories and a to-die-for purse.

With a triumphant smile she says” That’s casual for a date!”

When Meagan finally gets to my apartment she waltzes in like a superstar, sunglasses on her nose and elegantly dressed.

“Look at you all classy” I say confused as to why she would be dresses this way when it’s only 2’O clock in the afternoon.

“Well, you know that guy from high school, I told you about?”

“Are you cheating on Derrick?” Cameron asks before I can share some of my own horrified words.

“No… At least not yet”

“What’s been happening with you lately Meagan?” I say, so concerned.

“Nothing you guys! Gosh, always worrying for no reason”

“You sure it’s nothing baby? Because we’re here for you, if there is something going on. Even if you’re cheating on Derrick and this is the guilt talking” Cameron says.

“You guys, everything is alright”. She stands up and pulls us both in for a hug, as if to really convince us that she’s doing fine.

There is definitely something up with her.
