Most men hunted wild game and boldly kept our fierce enemies at bay. They were all a girl could ever want. Then why was I drawn to that lean and mercurial stranger who silently shuffled along the streets of twilight? He was not husband material, yet I could not take my eyes off him. A radiant energy dwelled within him, swifter than a flowing river and more transcendent than quicksilver. He was master of an unknown domain, possessed by demon logic that confounded common men. I wanted to be initiated into his mystery and be consumed by his secret fire.
