Through the window, I saw Earth’s aurora borealis shimmer and flow in a bright lattice of electromagnetism. It was a wonderful conclusion to my earthly foray. Still, there were a few things I’d rather forget. I popped an erasure capsule in my mouth and was about to swallow when the transmission came.

“Congratulations on a successful mission, Iron Thorn. Ready for the next phase?”

“But I thought-”

“If you’re not up to it, we could find a replacement.”

I felt my jaw tighten. “That won’t be necessary.”

“Great. We’re uploading instructions now.”

I leaned forward and spit out the capsule.
