Chapter.4. = Drawing with Jane

Kyle edged me onto his lap as I continued to cry. He rested his chin on the top of my head and rubbed my back as I wrapped my arms round his waist. I just wished I could tell him but whenever I tried, Mark came in my mind and I couldn’t. We both jumped as the door opened. It was just Jane. The school councillor.
“Everything ok in here?” She asked, quite concerned, turning from Kyle to me.
“Yeah.” Kyle spoke for me. “We’re fine.”
“What’s wrong Bella?”
“Nothing.” I lied again, wiping away my tears.
“Why are you crying?”
“I’m not.”
“She won’t say.” Kyle interrupted. “She’ll be fine though.”
“Kyle.” We both looked towards Jane. “I think Bella can speak for herself, don’t you?” We didn’t say anything. “Why don’t you go back to your lesson now? You don’t want to be late.” Kyle loosened his grip on me as he stood up from the chair.
“I’ll see ya later, ok?” He stroked my hair and kissed my cheek comfortingly. “Good luck, you’ll be fine.”
“Don’t go.” I pleaded, sniffing.
“You’ll be fine, I’ll see ya later.” Smiling at me, he left the room as I just turned my back on Jane, not wanting to speak to anyone but Kyle. She sighed and came to sat at the chair opposite me. She picked up my drawing of the red rose and scanned it over.
“You draw this?” I nodded. “It’s really good.” I smiled weakly. “Thinking of becoming an artist when you’re older?” I shrugged. “You’ll make a good one, what else can you draw?”
“That’s about it.” I said, looking at the rose. “I...I’m ok at animals.”
“What kind of animals?”
“Mainly cats really.” She smiled and grabbed a sheet of paper and another pencil, shoving it towards me. “Want me to draw one?”
“Go ahead.” I gave her a blank look but got my head down to work. “So, do you do art at school?” I nodded, drawing the ears of the cat. “I can see why, you enjoy it?” I nodded again. “Who’s your favourite teacher?” I sighed as I looked up from drawing.
“Mrs Wimlet.” I answered. “She teaches Art.” Jane nodded. “She says I’m her best student.”
“Well, that’s good.”
“I get called a teacher’s pet sometimes though.”
“You should ignore people who call you that.” I nodded.
“I do.”
“Good, is that why you were upset?” I shook my head. “Then why?” I shrugged, getting down to drawing again. “You do know I am here for anyone who wants to talk to me, right?” I nodded. “Then you can tell me anything, problems at home? School? Anything else?”
“School.” I whispered.
“What about it?” I shrugged. “Is Kyle your best friend?” I nodded. “You like him more than a friend?” I shrugged. “Is that a yes?”
“No.” I chuckled slightly. “He’s just a friend, a very good friend.” She giggled. “Finished.” I added the finishing touches to my drawing and shoved it towards her happily.
“That was fast.” She picked it up and scanned it over. “Very good, you put a lot of detail in.”
“I know.” I smiled. “I always do.”
“Is this your cat?”
“I don’t have a cat.” I sighed. “I wish I did though, Kyle has one called Fluffy and she’s really cute.”
“I can see that Kyle thinks a lot of you.” I remained silent as I took my picture back. “That’s nice to get from a friend.” I nodded. “Or more than a friend.”
