Chapter.5. = Why Me?
“Hey, are you ok now?” I nodded faintly as Kyle wrapped an arm round my shoulder comfortingly. “Good, I was really worried.” I sighed deeply, looking at the floor and studying my sneakers carefully. “Did you talk with Jane?” I nodded again. “Did you tell her?” I shook my head. “Ok, well after school, wanna go to the park for a bit?” I was now fed up with his concern and finally decided to speak out.
“Just leave me alone.” I groaned, making my way to third period. I really did hate Math and it made it worse that we were doing algebra. I took my seat and sat with my arms folded across my chest, poker face on. I did nothing as Mr Heckles walked in asking all students to get out their books. Kyle had now walked in and was sitting just across the way next to his best friend Alex. I avoided eye contact with him.
“Bella?” I looked up as Mr Heckles called my name. “Did you not hear what I said?”
“What?” He sighed.
“Get out your books please.”
“I don’t have them.” I confidently said, noticing Kyle roll his eyes as the whole class groaned. Everyone got so annoyed with me, so easily. There was then a knock at the door and Principal Robert’s walked in the room. Saved by the principal.
“Excuse me Mr Heckles; can I borrow Bella for a moment please?” Thank god!
“Of course Principal Robert’s, Bella you may go.” Although I hated being asked to go with the principal, I was actually quite pleased about that at the moment. I’d do anything to get out of Math class with Mr Heckles. I grabbed my bag and walked out the room.
“Sup Robert’s?”
“Bella, I am your principal so you should know how to speak to me properly.”
“Sorry Principal Robert’s.” I put the emphasis on Principal.
“Thank you, now, I’ve just had a word with Jane.” I sighed, just wishing that I could melt to the floor right now, right here. “She tells me you were very upset when she saw you and Kyle in the classroom.” I shrugged. “What happened?”
“I wasn’t upset.” I mumbled.
“She says you were crying.” I remained silent then. “What happened Bella?”
“Nothing.” I whispered.
“Now I know you’re not telling me the truth here.” Silence. “Just tell me, you wouldn’t tell Kyle and you wouldn’t tell Jane, what happened? Is it really that bad?” I nodded faintly. “So something did happen then?” I shook my head. “Bella, you’re not making sense, what happened?”
“Just leave me alone.”
“No.” He touched my arm as I tried to walk off. I stared at him with wide eyes. “Bella?” I could feel his hand making its way up my arm, his face edging closer and closer. I closed my eyes tight, avoiding eye contact. “Bella?”
“I...I have to go.” I stuttered before running off in the other direction. I went to the only place that I felt safe. The Library. I flung my bag in a corner and flopped down on the yellow and red bean bags, breaking down into tears. “Why me?” I whispered to myself, wiping my tear stained eyes. “Why me?”
