Chapter 1: Take A Stand

The bruise glowed compared to my deathlike skin as I gazed into the mirror. My left cheek was afflicted, and every time I touched it, I flinched slightly. Dropping my hand and placing it on the bathroom counter, finally I looked in the mirror, past the intelligible reflection. What am I doing here? I think. This isn't me, I should get away. I'm not afraid anymore. Leisurely, I took a deep breath and walked out of the bathroom. An aged woman passed me on the way out. She scrutinized me like I was the savage, and I deserved the black and blue face. Maybe it was because of the black skinny jeans, red shirt, and nose piercing. I briskly walked out of the McDonald's and to my decent, silver Mazda. No matter what would happen, I would stand my ground when I got back to the apartment.

I rolled into the vast parking lot of RiverTown mall. It felt as if everyone was staring at me as I walked down the hallway. Going against the crowd, I was sure to walk on the left side of people, so my long hair would cover my left cheek. At the Sleeping Tiger Imports store, I felt at ease. It was a tiny place that carried anything I could ever want. Incense, candles, necklaces, bags, etc. Immediately, I walked up to the back of the store. I knelt down and looked fixedly at the various daggers.

“May I help you?” The woman cashier asked. I stood up.
“Can I see that one?” I pointed to a small dagger in a black sheath. For a moment, she stared at me, hesitant, but grabbed the dagger anyway. Carefully, I pulled the deadly weapon out of it's case, and pondered my options.
It's just for extra protection. Just in case... My mind wouldn't let me think what could happen. “I'll take this one.”

The cashier seized the dagger and rang it up, still taking ganders at me from the corner of her bronze eyes. When I was done there, I ran back to my car. Minutes passed as I sat there, dagger in my lap, thinking about what I was going to do, once back home. A stray tear rolled down my unharmed cheek.
