They made their way out of the hospital through the back entrance and started to walk to Marion shopping centre. It wasn't far, about a kilometre away from the hospital. They spoke about trivial things along the way, Samantha didn't want to put Callum off of the day she had planned. Callum paid for the movie because of chivalric tendencies. Samantha instead paid for the popcorn and drinks. They were watching a foreign film of Samantha's choosing. Callum wasn't big on subtitles and didn't fancy foreign films much but he had to admit this one was pretty good. Callum found that by the end Samantha was crying. The main character was dying and telling his lover how he loves her and will never leave her alone again. Callum didn't understand how girls could cry over something so pathetic but he didn't say anything even after they left the cinema. She excused herself and went to the toilet leaving Callum alone in the cinema foyer. Callum was thinking to himself about how he was going to explain this all the next day when he heard familiar voices coming from behind him. He spun and saw Simon and Kelsey walking up behind him. They hadn't seen him so he hid behind a pillar and waited patiently for Samantha, hoping that neither of them would catch him here. But why were they here? They don't normally take the day off school so it was weird. Callum risked a glance over his shoulder. They were looking around for something, or someone. Simon's head turned his way and Callum spun back behind the pillar and closed his eyes, praying that they wouldn't walk over to his position. Callum saw Samantha walking over after re-opening his eyes.

“Oh good, they're here,” she said, walking straight passed Callum and approaching Simon and Kelsey. Callum, was dumbfounded and didn't move from his spot behind the pillar. “Simon? Kelsey?” Samantha asked. They both nodded Samantha smiled gratefully. “He's back here,” she said leading them to Callum who conceded defeat and stepped around the pillar looking very guilty.

“When did you call them and how did you get their number?” Callum asked sighing. Samantha pulled his phone out of her pocket.

“I called them half and hour before the movie ended. Told them where you were and that they should pick you up,” Samantha said.

“How did you know it was them?”

“Well, they were looking around for someone and you were hiding. I assumed that two and two went together so I asked. Besides, you have pictures of them on your phone,” She pressed a button and a picture of the popped up in front of him. Callum threw his arms up in defeat.

“Right so now you know where I am. What else do you know?” Callum asked Simon and Kelsey.

“Everything,” Simon said. Callum snatched Samantha.

“You told them about the letter?” He asked her.

“What letter?” Kelsey asked. Callum looked at Samantha, shocked. She shrugged, her expression reading, you blew it. Callum looked back at the other two who looked confused.

“Nothing,” he said. Kelsey put her hands on her hips.

“Mate, if there's one thing we know about you. Nothing is never nothing,” Simon said shaking his head. Callum groaned.

“Well I can't tell you,” Samantha grabbed him and pulled him aside,

“Do you think that is wise. If you don't tell them and go missing, what are they gonna feel like?” She let it sink in. “I'm not one for flashy speeches so I'll keep it short. You can not trust Mark with this. You don't know who he is and this could be a trap set up by his friends. It would be best if you had some back up for it all. I don't want to see anything happen to you,” She gave him his phone back. “I'll be calling everyday from now on. If your mum asks tell her I'm just a concerned friend. Do not give my name away,”

“What? Why?”

“Just trust me. It's better that she doesn't know that I exist,” Samantha was being unnervingly secretive and Callum was curious as to why.

“Samantha. What's this all about?” Callum asked.

“I – I can't tell you. Not yet anyway,” She brought him back over. Simon and Kelsey looked undisturbed and were patiently awaiting an explanation. “As I was saying, they're very concerned for you, really concerned,”

“Yeah mate. You haven't ran out of the school since that time in year nine. Jesus that was a bad day,” Callum made to pinch him but stopped clenching his fist and putting his hand in his pocket. “Glad to see that you're getting used to atheism. Anyway, we need to talk about this. We haven't spoken about anything since last year, and with me and Kel staying away all summer, you haven't been happy,”

“I've been fine. How many times do I have to tell you that?” Simon put his hand on Callum's shoulder.

“And how many times do I have to say that I don't believe you?” Callum bowed his head. “Exactly! Now you have not been happy, it's evident from how you've been acting but that's not at issue here. What is, is the accident on Friday. Come on, we'll talk somewhere else I think,” They led him off and out of the shopping centre, Samantha in tow.

They arrived at Kelsey's Ford Fiesta shortly after. Not exactly a big car but it was fine for transporting four people. Samantha approached slowly before moving off to the side of green four-wheel drive.

“Right, well this is where I leave you all,” She said. “Remember Callum, I'll be calling each day to check up on you. Don't do anything stupid,” she said warningly, raising a threatening finger at him. Callum nodded, arms up in surrender. Samantha smiled and walked off, not saying anything else.

“Who exactly is that?” Simon asked Callum.

“I don't know exactly. She's called Samantha, that's it. She seems to be over zealous and has it in her head that I must talk to her,” Callum explained.

“Are you?”

“No, of course not. I'm just gonna ignore her calls aren't I,” Callum smiled arrogantly. “What's she gonna do about it?” It was rhetorical and Simon shrugged it off.

“Anyway, let's get you home, we'll talk there,”

“Home? But – but my sisters are there. If they catch me sneaking in, mum will find out. Then I'm fucked,” Callum crossed his arms. “You can't make me go if I don't want to,” Simon grabbed Callum's ear and dragged him to the passenger door of Kelsey's car. Callum kept whining in pain but Simon ignored him. Simon pulled his seat forward and shoved Callum into the back. Kelsey ignored the childish behaviour and moved into the driver's seat. After Simon sat down They left the car park.

Callum's house was only a twelve minute drive away so they didn't wait too long. Simon dragged Callum out of the car and up to his front door. He knocked. Callum's sister Amy answered the door.

“What are you doing here?” She asked Callum snidely. “Did you get suspended again?”

“What do you mean 'again'? I haven't ever been suspended,” Callum said.

“One can only hope,” Amy sighed regrettably. “So what's ya boyfriend here for then?”

“Use your imagination,” Simon shot, laughing.

“I will” Amy paused. “OH! OMG! GROSS! YOU'RE! HE'S! UGH!” Callum rubbed his temple in frustration.

“Move it Amy,” Callum said pushing passed her. She gave up her position willing. Kelsey followed Simon in. She stopped next to Amy. “You coming Kel?”

“Nah! I'll stay and talk with Amy I think. You two have fun,” She said waving.

“You're just gonna let him take your boyfriend so easily. Careful or you'll leave this house a single lady,” Amy said. Callum gave her the finger as he walked into his room. She saluted in equal measure even though he couldn't see.

“At least I'll know why he hasn't tried anything right?” Kelsey asked. Amy smiled evilly.

“Trouble in paradise?”

“Oh, don't get your hopes up. I'm no slut. Still he hasn't even suggested it and we've been going out for three years now,” They walked off and continued the conversation.
