Party Time on Lake George

by Ben A. Vanguarde

The crisp night air had not worn off the docks as a cyclist rode up to the bum in the parking lot.  "Today, I get my cast off."

"I'm happy for you, Mel.  Anything new?"

"No, we keep comparing customers on the security cameras and the locals all seem to check out."

"Why don't you scan one table at a time?"

"We thought of that but the restaurants refuse.  They don't have enough tableware and it takes time to scan each piece.  They turn their dishes quickly.  That's why their inventory is low."

"It's been four years since she did this to me.  I want to bring that bitch down.  Ask how much and I'll buy the extra tableware, for god's sake."

"That's an idea.  Hey, I'll see you tomorrow, Don.  Pistol range again on Thursday?"

It could be explained that it's his job. I don't see other explanation though revenge can also take place. Still he is a good policeman, professional enough.

I think that if he wouldn't policeman, but, say, investigator his life would be really better than it is. I know well this system when crank works for two, but all this vainly and pitifully. When police inspector is just manager nobody never will be caught. You wrote good about Don. He is a positive hero.

In a thriller or mystery, the protagonist must be committed to stay until the resolution despite all the costs, damage, and set backs. In the beginning of the story you saw Don holding back, as one might do starting a new job. Handling the drunk and elusive car chase showed Don on his game. In Cleveland we see a Don even he did not know existed.
