Chapter Three

Belle, still in her wolf -form, opened her eyes and blinked and rose up her head. She had been curled up in a ball with her left paw over her muzzle.

The black wolf was a few feet away sitting, waiting for her to wake up so they can start the day. He leaned back his head and took a long yawn showing his big teeth off to the world.

The grey looked back at him then yawned herself and got to her feet shaking her body and her fur shuffled up and down. She stretched out her front legs and yawned again, wagging her tail.

He let out a rough sound from his mouth almost like a bark in command. Telling her not to slack, they must not sit around. The black stood up and turned around sniffing the air with his snout for local prey that morning. It was about half past eight and already he could get hints of prey blood in the air.

She too rose to her feet, her black snout up to the air sniffing it. Her stomach rumbled with hunger. Those hares didn't filll them up a lot. Suddenly, the grey wolf's ears turned to the front listening. She could smell prey very near to them, she had to move quickly and then slowly. All of a sudden, she took a few steps forwards across the ground and then almost like a bolt of lightening jolting across the sky, she took off into a run through the trees.

The black was a bit confused at first as to why the grey would suddenly run off like that but then he got the whiff of what made the grey female timber wolf so excited. He jolted through the trees after her. He saw her lying down in the grass after a few minutes and saw what she was looking at and it made him excited.

It was a couple of sheep in a nearby field eating some grass.

The wolves licked their lips hungrily and neared closer to the sheep ever so slightly, not alarming them. When the sheep saw them the sheep started to run and that just made the game of cat and mouse for the wolves exciting. They ran out through the grass and launched themselves up into the air and each one landed on a sheep and tore it to pieces. The grey  killed her prey and took a few steps back to let the black eat first. She whined with exitement and sat down, panting.

The black wolf tore off skin and flesh and ate it splashing blood all over his paws and muzzle.

The grey wolf licked her lips with her long tongue and watched, wanting to taste the sweet taste of meat in her mouth. She whined excitedly and then let out a high bark which resulted her getting a fierce snarl and growl from the alpha so she whined grumpily and laid her head down on her front paws.

Soon the black got to his feet and walked away leaving enough meat on the dead sheeps' body for her. She dived onto  the dead sheeps' bodies and ate with satisifaction. Leaving nothing but the spine left.

The wolves jolted off back into the woods quickly before any humans came and tried to shoot them. They travelled for quite a distance and then came to a rest by a stream of water when they sensed they were far from any danger from man -  their enemy. The black and the grey wolf laid down together side by side licking each other's mouths affectionately after that they rested their heads on their front paws and let their eyelids droop very low until they fell into a deep, deep sleep.
