Town after town I got only half as much training, but town after town I got more and more jobs with metal. So many blacksmiths where happy to have my help, and in the tenth town the only blacksmith was about seventy-eight years old and he couldn’t work as well as I could.

The old man was greatful for my help. He had many people upset that he didn’t have there swords done, or there armor, or what ever they had placed in his care, they started to get agitated. I showed up when a solder was raising his hand to the old man.

“You worthless old man!” shouted the soldier, “You were supposed to have my men’s things ready by now! I have given you to many passes, to day I teach you what you deserve.”

“Stop” I said from right behind the soldier in a whisper. “Do you have no shame?” I asked.

The soldier froze, and looked over his shoulder, once he’s eyes met mine, his whole body moved towards mine, his feet shifting, until he’s body was facing mine. Once he’s eyes looked me up and down a small smile spread across his lips. “Well, well, what have we here? A woman who is defying a soldier? And one with sword too.” A laugh bellowed from deep within his chest. “You better keep moving along. This man can’t fix anything metal if his life depends on it, which it does. Just move along and mind you r own business.” He turned his body back to the man and raised his hand again.

I grabbed his hand and pulled it back behind his back, “I thought I told you to stop.” I hissed.

He gasped out in pain, and then said through gritted teeth, “And I thought I told you to move on your way.” I pulled on his arm making his shoulder pop. “Assaulting a soldier is punishable by death.”

How about this, you let the man go scot free and let me finish the metal work.”

He solder started to laugh, “You can’t just come here and expect me to let you go after you just assaulted me.”

“How about this then, I will finish all the metal work your army needs in two months. And you’ll let this man go and you’ll let this little misunderstanding go. Does that sound good?” I asked lightly with a threat hidden in the background of my innocent voice.

The soldier laughed, “How could a scrawny little thing like you finish month’s worth of metal?”

“What? Are you scared that I will finish this and then you’ll have to let it all go?” I asked, using the same thing I always did when some said no. I spoke what they were afraid of what would happen, it worked every time.

“Fine, but if you don’t finish the work your going to die by my sword.” I let his arm go and he turned away from me and left the blacksmiths barn.
