Chapter 17

The Truth Comes Out

Lily walked into her house in front of everyone else. They lived in a village just a few miles from The Weasleys house. It was a four bedroom stone house with a huge garden. If you walked past the trees right at the bottom of the garden you would find an abandoned field. That was where they played Quidditch and in the summer the grass and trees were beautiful. When it's snowy, like today, it was just as nice but thinking about the snow made Lily shiver.
As soon as Lily walked in the house a big, black dog jumped up at her, nearly knocking her over. She started to scratch it's neck and it sat down. Lily was only a little away of james running past her and up to his room.
"Aww, good Padfoot." She said. The name came back to her memory and she glanced down at her bag where she hid the book.
"He's been missing you." Harry said as he came in behind Albus who started to say 'Hello' to the dog as well. You have always been here."
"That reminds me." Lily said. "I asked for a photo. You never replied."
Harry stared at his daughter. "You did?"
"Yeah, I wanted to show him to Issac and Grace. I think they would want to see him." Lily smiled up to her parents, a plan stirring up in her mind. "Oh well. I'll take one back with me."
Harry smiled then went into the kitchen as Ginny came downstairs.
"He won't open his door." Lily heard her mother tell Harry.
"Ahh, he'll open it for dinner. Besides, he'll want to see Teddy. He hasn't seen him since summer."
Lily smiled to herself. It was only yesterday that she ran into Teddy for some comfort. At least he will be hear tonight. Then she wondered if Teddy would tell.
"Don't worry." Albus whispered to her. "I think James is kind enough not to tell."
Lily smiled but then suddenly heard something. Everyone had always said she had amazing hears and could pick up a whispered conversation in a sound-proof room. She strained her ears to listen to her parents as she heard her name.
"...Lily said it. Remember? She said something about us saving lives." Harry whispered.
"Well, maybe she...I don't know. Saving me from the basilisk wasn't a bad thing, was it? You should be proud and tell your children what has happened."
"I will. Just, not now."
Lily couldn't help but smile as she knew when she would tell.

The sat at the dinner table. Lily luckily got the top of the table by the window. Albus was on her left and he sat next to Ginny. It was Teddy on her right and james next to him. Harry was completely opposite.
She wasn't eating her dinner as everyone else chatted cheerily. It was only Albus that had noticed her but didn't bother her as he glanced at her once or twice.
James seemed to have forgotten the incident between his parents and him and they were happily chatting away about Quidditch.
"So you are getting good now, are you?" Ginny asked.
"Yeah! I'm apparently the best Keeper, so says River." James said to them. He started to eat his potatoes and Harry looked up at Lily.
"And how is school for my little princess?" He asked her. Lily didn't answer but kept looking at her father, like she was doing a staring contest with him or something similar.
"Lily?" Ginny asked shakily. Lily put her hand down by her seat and felt her school bad, ready to show them the book.
"Honey, what's wrong?" Her mum said across the table. Lily saw her brothers and Teddy all looking at her. it was only Albus she turned to. She smiled at him then turned back to her shocked father.
"Why didn't you tell us?"
Colour washed from Harry's face as he heard the words spill out of her mouth. Ginny held his hand as he said "Wh-what are you talking about, Lily?"
"I'm talking about this!" Lily grabbed the book from her back and threw it onto the table. The potato bowl got knocked and they all started to roll around on the table. No one noticed as they all read the title.
"'Harry Potter: The Boy Who Lived'. Dad, what's this?" James asked.
"The least you could have done was tell Teddy about his parents."
"Lily, shh." Harry said but she didn't listen. She turned to Teddy who questioned her with a look.
"Did you know that your mum was killed by her aunt?"
"Lily-"
"And that your dad was a werewolf?"
"Lily! That is enough!"Harry roared across the table. Lily nearly jumped out of her seat.
"Harry...?" Teddy started. Everyone went silent. Albus was the only one looking at Lily. He grabbed her hand. She smiled at him but she was a little scared now of her dad. She saw Ginny squeeze his hand before he said "I think it's time to tell you the truth."
