Chapter 7

Quidditch Tryouts

The rest of the week past uneventful for all of them. Lily's head didn't seem to hurt and Teddy didn't even turn up. The only thing that happened was while James was in classes.
Goyle kept whispering to him about anything that will annoy him, which, in Lily's opinion was just childish.
"Hey, Potter! Where's Diggory?" Was one thing he asked. None of them knew what he was talking about so James just left it.
But the week had ended and it was Sunday. Lily, Rose and Albus had all gone down to the Quidditch pitch to watch James trying out. He seemed really excited.
"He's been practicing all week!" Albus said, jumping up a bit.
"Practicing what? Is he Keeper, Chaser or Seeker?" Rose asked him. Her arms were folded and wasn't as excited as Albus.
"Keeper. He's really good! I bet you guys will have a great team this year." He smiled, which Lily noticed was fake. She wondered if he really wanted to be in Gryffindor.
"You never know." Said Rose. "James might not get in."
They were nearly at the pitch when Lily noticed a movement. Someone, or something, was by the lake, hiding in the bushes. Lily stopped and stared, hoping to see the thing again but nothing else happened.
"Lily?" Rose asked and Lily became aware that they were watching her.
"Thought I saw something." She said. "In the water. I bet it was the giant squid."
Probably saying that she had seen something move but not being able to enplane it would make them worry. She didn't need that. Today was James' turn to get the attention from the family.
They sat near the goalposts so they would be able to see better. At that moment the team and hopefuls were warming up by flying round the pitch. The caption this year was River Jordan. His fifth year at Hogwarts and very young for caption but everyone knew he was good.
"Hey Lily!" Said a girl. Lily Looked round and saw Grace sitting down next to her. She noticed there was a red stripe in her hair, which didn't exactly go well with the purple hair.
"Uh..." She said, her eyes on the hair. Grace must have noticed.
"Red for Gryffindor. I would have put it in sooner but you need time with hair dye!" She laughed but clearly Lily didn't find it funny. She couldn't understand the joke.
"Hair dye?"
"It's a Muggle thing." Grace answered. Lily turned away.
"Why's she talking to me?" Lily asked Albus who sat on her left. "We're not friends!"
"I don't know, I'm not in Gryffindor."
They both turned back to the tryouts but Lily couldn't enjoy it as much as she hoped. Grace kept commenting on everything and and jumping up, screaming if someone saved a goal.
James was brilliant. He was really quick and he saved most goals. There was two really good Seekers who were now both chasing after the Snitch as if it was the last thing they would do. Lily kept watching them as the twisted around each other, climbing higher and then suddenly falling back down. It was amazing. She was suddenly caught of guard when James suddenly fell off his broom.
"Hey! What you playing at?" She heard Rose scream down to another Keeper tryout. His smile faded and looked up at her.
"He threw the Quaffle! Not a Chaser!" Grace cried. "Threw it at his face!"
They all watched as River helped James up. His nose was bleeding and River was shouting at the other Keeper.
"WHAT YOU PLAYING AT! THIS ISN'T 'HIT THE KEEPER IN THE FACE'! GET OUT OF HERE IF YOU CAN'T BE A TEAM PLAYER!"
"Wooo!" Shouted Grace. "You get him River!"
They all clapped as James went back up to the goal posts. One Chaser seemed to stand out. She was zooming around the pitch and scored alot of goals. James looked embarrassed.
"Who's that?" Lily asked Rose, pointing to the girl.
"The good Chaser? I think it's Jessica Cleverly. She's in the same year as River, I think."
Jessica looked really pleased with herself as she fly back down to each with James. It looked like they had chosen who would be be on the team, apart from the Seekers. They were still flying around the place, following each other, arms out stretched...
"YES!" Cried one of the Seekers. He flew around the pitch holding the small, golden ball in his hand, a grin so big it reached his ears.
"Woo! You rock Hopkins!" Grace called to hm as he got nearer. He looked older than the other boy.
"Thanks!" He said as he came round to them, then headed back to the rest of the team.
"Who's that?" Lily asked.
"Tom Hopkins. Seventh year." Rose answered. "Let's go, they've finished."
They all got up, including Grace, and walked back up to the castle together. Grace walked a few feat away from them.
"James was amazing!" Albus said. "No way are Slytherin going to beat you."
"You're not a good Slytherin, are ya?" Grace suddenly called from behind them.
"Excuse me?" Albus asked her.
"Well you should really support your own team more." She said back. Albus stopped which halted the others, Grace stopped a few steps away.
"Gryffindor is my team." He said. "My family play in it."
"But your house isn't Gryffindor."
"So! What difference does that make?" He walked away before she could answer. When they got to the castle he went down to the dungeons before saying goodbye to Rose and Lily.
"She really is a git, isn't she." Rose said. "Why are you friends with her?"
"I'm not!" Lily said defensively. "I don't like her!"
Grace pasted them and went towards the library without a word, not noticing Rose was scowling at her.
"Well let's go to the common room. James should be up soon."
Rose was right. Five minutes later they entered the common room James and the rest of the team came up too. The room had already been decorated to celebrate the new team members. The whole room clapped as the team came in. River stood up on a table and the noise calmed down.
"For our Seeker: Tom Hopkins!" The room screamed as Tom moved towards the table.
"For our Chaser: Jessica Cleverly!" The room was even louder because the girls screamed their hearts out. Lily put her hands over her ears.
"And for our Keeper: James Potter!" Lily screamed this time too. Her throat seemed to be getting ripped out because she was screaming so loudly.
The party went on for hours. At around four Lily headed to the library since she had alot of homework to finish. She thought it might just be a lame excuse to get away from all the noise but she really needed to finish her essay for Professor Terrian.
It was very quiet inside. Not many people were about so Lily went to a table that was empty. She reached in her bag for her books, parchment, quills and ink and set to work at once. As she finished her essay for Transfiguration she was about to set work on her Herbology one when Grace walked up to her.
"Um, Lily? Can you help me?" She asked. "I can't find anything to do with Alihotsy in our book."
Lily flipped through her book and noticed there was nothing in there.
"Well let's look on the shelves for books that are decent enough to help us with this." She got up and made sure she wasn't near Grace as she looked. As Grace went to the Herbology section Lily went to the section of books Professor Longbottom wrote.
She started to search for books with any A-Z's of plants. There were books on water plants and mountain plants, posiness plants and heeling plants. Then one struck Lily as if all the air in her had been knocked out.
She drew the book from the shelf and stared at the big red title.

Harry Potter:
The Boy Who Lived

Lily looked at it in utter amazment. Harry Potter? That had to be her dad but what did The Boy Who Lived mean? She quickly looked around for Grace.
She collected her stuff then ran out of the place, holding the book tight in her arms.
When she got to the Gryffindor common room it was mostly empty because dinner was on. Lily grabbed some snakes from a table then ran to her dormitry.
Clossing the door and sitting on her bed, she started to read.
