Chapter 9

Walter Wingiss

"...having a haunted past the Dementors affected Harry more than others. Just after hearing a woman cry Harry fainted.
When he awoke the man had awoken. He gave Harry some chocolate while telling him that he was Professor Remus Lupin..."

Professor Remus Lupin thought Lily. As in Teddy Remus Lupin?
"Are you coming down to breakfast?" Jessie Finnigan asked from across the room. Lily looked up, startled by the sudden question.
"Yeah, I am."
She slid the book back under her bed. It had come to October and today was the first Hogsmeade trip. Today would be the first day without James or Albus.
When she got to the Gryffindor table the normal people were there. The only different looking one was a strong looking boy with spiked up brown hair. Lily knew he had to be Teddy.
"Hi everyone." She said cheerfully as she sat down.
"Don't worry Lily. You don't have to be to happy we're going. We'll be back later." James joked.
"No. I'm, more annoyed you're coming back." She said as she helped herself to some bacon. "Teddy, why do you never go and see Albus? You only ever come over here."
"I have gone over a few times. It's just there's more of you here."
"So! Go over and see him!" Lily said.
"Don't worry. I'm going with James, Albus and the others to Hogsmeade. I wouldn't miss that for the world!"
The post owls came in then. Wings flapping around the room. A tawny owl, that Lily noticed belonged to their mum, held what was obviously a broomstick.
James' face lit up as it landed beside him.
"No way." Lewis commented as James ripped the packaging. He gasped once James had finished.
In front of them lay the fastest broom in the world, the Firebolt 3000.
"Come on!" Hugo said. "That is so not fair!"
"Well you better get practicing." James said as he ran his hand over the new broom. "Maybe you might get onto the Quidditch Team."
"You have to try it out!" Isaac said who had run down from the other end of the table to see the new package.
"Yeah! Come on. We'll try it out now."
James grabbed the broom and ran out the Great Hall and into the grounds. He swung his leg round the Firebolt 3000 and flew up, very fast.
"Did I just see James with a broomstick?" River Jordan called from the door.
"Yeah. A Firebolt 3000!" Hugo said excitedly. Rose started to laugh at Rivers expression.
"You're joking!" he said, running over to them.
"No really!" Diana said. Archie just didn't know what to say.
"International standard! No way is anyone going to be able to get the Quaffle past him!"
James flew down and landed next to Archie who jumped out the way, scared James would crash into him. Hugo looked at the broom in a longing way and Lily could see he was bursting to say something. A few moments later they all knew why.
"Can I please have a shot?" He begged James.
James' huge smile faded as he looked round at Hugo. Everyone held their breath. Hugo looked petrified.
"Sure!" James said, handing Hugo the Firebolt 3000, his face lighting up again. Lily had seen that trick to many times before.
Hugo couldn't believe his ears. His mouth open, his eyes wide, he jumped onto the broom and flew into the air.
They could hear his screams of joy as if he was right next to them. He tried to do a flip but obviously hadn't mastered them as he nearly fell off. Everyone started to laugh.
"We better get ready for Hogsmeade." Rose announced to the group. They all nodded and started to shout Hugo down. He looked very disappointed after.
"Lily. I was wondering if you would come and research Walter Wingiss with me in the library." Archie asked as James, Rose, Lewis, Diana, Teddy and River headed towards the common room. Isaac and Hugo stood a few meters away.
"Who's Walter Wingiss?" Lily asked.
"He's that wizard that said he's related to me. I'm just wondering if I can find the connection."
"Well." Lily suddenly remembered the chapter she had started to read that day. Maybe she could look up the old teachers. "I would love to help."
They walked into the castle when Hugo joined them.
"So, where we going?" He asked.
"Library." Lily said. She saw his face drop and took a step back.
"Not homework!"
"No, not homework. We are going to look up that wizard who Archie is meant to be related to. Walter Wingiss."
They headed up the stairs to the library and passed a bunch of Slytherins on the way.
"Hey! It's Potter! Thinking she can rule the school with her purple haired freak friend by her side!"
Lily looked at them to see Sire sneering at them with his usual group, she hardly knew any of them.
"Don't call her a purple haired freak." Lily said, a straight face on. Anger in her eyes, throwing knifes at Sire.
"Well she is. I mean, look at her. For a start she's half Muggle and second, she is in love with all that Muggle stuff! She may as well be a Mudblood. Like tiny there." Sire and his mates started to laugh. Lily couldn't take this.
She walked up to Sire and slapped him across the face. She grabbed her wand and pointed it at his mates.
"Now. I am willing to fight Muggle style, and believe me. I can do alot worse."
She started to walk away with Hugo and Archie and didn't hear anything else from them.
It was very quiet in the library so they went to work straight away. The looked through old student lists and any family trees they found. Most were just ones that were pure-blood like the Malfoy's and the Weasley's and the Black's. Lily was sure she had heard the name before.
In the book I'm reading she thought. Sirius Black.
She unrolled the parchment of the Black Family tree and searched but couldn't find him anywhere. She thought it was a bit weird that some of the people were burned off it. Maybe Sirius Black was one of them.
"Oh my god!" Archie said. "He's here! In the student list!"
They all crowded round it and saw Walter Wingiss' name on the sheet.
"Maybe we could ask Madam Bones if she could help us." Hugo suggested.
"Alright. I'll go." Archie said excitedly.
It was a few more minutes before Archie came back with the librarian, Madam Bones.
"There's not alot of family trees here but I am sure I saw Wingiss somewhere once." She started to search through the scrolls and the sheets.
Finally she found one that looked very short.
"Not alot of people do family trees. Maybe it might become more popular." She unrolled the scroll and handed it to Archie.
Thanks, Madam Bones." He said as she walked away. He looked around on it and saw Walter Wingiss.
"Hey! His aunt is my granny!"
Lily looked at it and saw Wilma Wingiss, which had the word "Squib" underneath it, next to Walter. She was connected to a man called Archie McKenzie.
"So did you not know much about her?" Lily asked.
"No. She died before I was born but I knew her name and I know my grandads name so it must be them." Archie confirmed.
"That's confusing." Hugo said, looking at the parchment. "Look! It goes all the way up to the Dumbledores!"
Lily followed the line up and, sure enough, there was a Dumbledore.
"Aww, cool!" Lily said. "My dads Headmaster was a Dumbledore and Albus is named after him."
Archie smiled. "Is there a way of copying this?" Archie asked. "I want to keep it."
"Well ask Madam Bones." Lily said. At least they found something out today.
