“Aislinn Brannic?” Mr. Sombers looked up through his thick rimmed glasses to scan the class room. Just then, the door burst open and she came in. Forest girl.
“Here, I’m here.” It all came out in one breath. Bryceon’s mouth might as well be on the ground. She looked different, less rough. Her tresses were tucked behind a blue headband. He took a look at her uniform; the whole outfit must’ve been tailored. It fit her perfectly, showing an accent of her curves.
Aislinn. Aislinn. He replayed her name in his head. Repeatedly.
“Well Miss Brannic, won’t you have a seat?” It just so happened that there was an empty seat right next to Bryceon. Her eyes scanned the room until it landed on the seat. With a sigh, she slid into the seat and opened her binder.
“Hey, Aislinn.” She shot him a look out of the corner of her eye. What do you want? The voice echoed in Bryceon’s mind, leaving him a little dumbstruck. It can use telekinesis. He joked. Shut the fuck up, would you? Some people are here to learn. She obviously wasn’t in the mood to talk.
“Bryceon Salim?” Mr. Somber’s looked up again when Bryceon raised his hand.
“Salem.” Bryceon corrected.
“Come again?” Mr. Sombers put his glasses on the desk and looked directly at Bryceon.
“My last name, is Salem. Not Salim.” The teacher narrowed his eyes at Bryceon. You’re an idiot, you know that? The voice was back, ringing in his mind.
“Well, maybe you can remind me later on today in detention.” It wasn’t a questionable matter, so Bryceon stayed quiet. In fact, he stayed quiet the rest of the class.
When the bell rang, he got up to leave but a soft hand gripped his wrist, sending sparks flying to his hand. Bryceon turned around to see Aislinn standing shyly in front of him.
“Thank you, for-uh- you know, not turning me in. But, I think we got off on the wrong foot.” She tucked a loose curl behind her ear.
“Well, I’m glad you think that. You know it’s adorable when you’re trying to apologize, it’s pretty hot.” Where did that come from? Bryceon thought to himself.
“Um, I’m going to take that as a compliment. So, thanks.” She started walking away.
“Come on, at least let me walk you to your next class.” He caught up to her at the door.
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were flirting with me, Mr. Salem.” She continued to walk down the hallway
“It depends, is it working?” He smirked, and for the first time since he’d seen her, she laughed. It was incredibly sexy, making his heart hasten. It was a mixture between a giggle and a full blown laugh, and a little breathy.
“See you in detention, Salem.” She crossed in front of him and entered her classroom leaving him in the hallway.
Aislinn slipped into the class a little too happy, even though she shouldn’t be. The stupid-ass grin was plastered on her face and she couldn’t seem to shake it off. He made her laugh, and he wasn’t that bad to look at. She decided not to be a total bitch to him.
“Ais, look at this. I found-” Aislinn looked up to see Jasslyn peering up at her with a puzzled look over her face. The fae stood at about 4’9, on a good day. And her hair, which was a flowing mass of mahogany curls and locks, was pulled into a messy bun. She pushed her glasses up on her nose before speaking. “You’re smiling, did you hurt someone? Is it Carlie, did she finally-”
“What?! No!” Aislinn shook her head.
“Then, what is it? You’re smiling like an idiot and there’s got to be a reason, so spill it.” She leaned in close.
“It’s this boy, Bryceon, he seems to take a fancy to me.” Aislinn pressed her binder to her chest and took a seat in the back of the class, like always.
“Bryceon Salem? Major hottie new kid, Bryceon Salem?” She fanned herself and settled down in the desk next to Aislinn.
“We have detention together so…” She trailed off.
“You should totally play hard to get. It’ll make him want you more.” Jass suggested, shrugging.
“Yeah, whatever.” Aislinn’s mood faded as quickly as it had come, when the door opened and in strutted the superficial supernatural. Carlie and Elodie. Aislinn threw her head back and groaned. She had history with them, involving paint, and dresses, and magic. It was tragically funny, the look on their faces was priceless.
“Who’s that?” Jass asked, gesturing to a heavily freckled girl coming through the door. From her aurora, Aislinn sensed a little ‘shifter or maybe vampire. Vampire? Most likely wasn’t, though. Vampires weren’t allowed in Iris Academy, it’s strictly for the contradistinctive, otherwise known as Prodigium .
Prodigium is where all the things that go bump in the night come together. But, it is only for the selected few species. Faeries, witches, warlocks, shape shifters, and werewolves. They were all created in battle between Heaven and Hell, since they didn’t choose sides, they became immortal. They were split into six groups, and vampires were the only ones who required blood to stay alive. So, naturally, they cut them off from Prodigium, and most of them joined the Alliance.
Alliance is a group of humans who know about Prodigium, vampires, demons, and a few ‘shifters. They all came together to take down Prodigium. You see Prodigium believes that the harmless supernatural are the best, and the rest don’t matter. So, of course, the vampires disagree. The demons are angry because the Prodigium didn’t take their side, and all werewolf packs are just going off their rockers, thinking that they are the only superior ones.
Aislinn returned her gaze to the girl, who timidly sat in a seat next to Elodie. Elodie then began chatting about something that was probably nonsense, telling the new girl the “dos” and “don’ts” of the school. Just then, a set of crystal blue eyes landed on her, glaring at her.
“Hey Elodie!” Aislinn waved her hand and smiled in her direction. Elodie shot her a nice little birdie before turning her attention back to new girl.
A wave of happiness washed over her again, and she couldn’t help but think that this year would actually be a good one.
