If it was so wrong why was I intentionally covering up? Why was I trying to please Nicholas? I kept telling myself it was because I didn’t want another fight, but I knew I was bull shitting myself.

I was a sick, sick person. I went downstairs, in a t-shirt and sweatpants. My brother and his two friends looked up as I approached. Josh cocked an eyebrow at my choice of nightwear, Reece just smiled. Nicholas bit his lip.

I sat down next to Josh, shrugged. “I’m trying to be reasonable. Don’t give me that look.”

“Zac, I’m sorry about last night.” Nicholas said.

I nodded. “Me too.”

It was back to awkward, it seemed. Each time I wanted to go to the kitchen, it was a quiet, “excuse me” as I stepped over his legs. Each time he needed to go to the bathroom it was an uncomfortable throat clear as he scooted past. Great.

Later that night I ran into him in the hall, on the way to the bathroom. Nicholas patted his sides uncomfortably. “About your pajamas-”

“God, what now? Am I showing too much arm and face?” I snapped. “What do I have to do to please you? Go back in time three years?”

He grabbed my face, pulled his lips to mine and kissed me. It should have been weird and uncomfortable, it wasn’t at all. Instead heat flared in my stomach. He pulled away. “I was just going to say thank you.” he breathed. “Can we stop this fighting now? Can we be friends?”

I stuck my hands into my pockets. “I know you were going to college, and this might seem stupid, but it kind of felt like you abandoned me, Nicholas. That might be part of why I’ve been so angry.”

“I know it was far, but I had to go to college, honey.”

“I know, it’s stupid.” I raised an eyebrow at him. “Why did you just kiss me?”

“It was either that or slug you. I don’t hit girls though. I had to shut you up somehow.”

“Oh.” I should have known that was all it was. “Um, well I need to go to the bathroom.”

“Oh, yeah. Okay. Um, do you want to hang out tomorrow? You know, do something fun, like the old days?”

“Are you sure you’re not going to freak out if you accidentally touch my boob or something?” I joked.

He grinned, pushed me against the wall, and kissed me again, then both of his hands groped my breasts. My heart thumped behind my ribs, my body vibrated, then right out shuddered when he ran his hands down my sides then around to my ass. He pulled my hips against his and rubbed. The feeling made all my rationality shut down, made my animal instincts come out.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled myself against him, kissed him as deeply as I could, and found myself wrapping my legs around his waist. He pressed my back against the wall, ground his hips against mine now, his lips sealed to mine.

He finally broke away and we both gasped for air. As we took in deep breaths, he slowly unwrapped my legs from his waist and set me down. “We should go to bed.”

“Okay, just as soon as I use the bathroom.” I breathed.

He chuckled, a little uncomfortably, then turned and went back to the guest room.
