Death. The word seems so simple and yet the meaning is quite intense. When it comes to life though, it’s the easiest step in our small lives. It’s the final push, the final break that our soul has to escaping. In one way it seems so beautiful; but so frightening at the same time. What happens after? No one has really been able to tell us.

“Lerae! Hurry up bitch!” Janine yelled from down the stairs. She stood there, hips cocked to the side, her blonde hair over her shoulders adorned with a headband of fake colorful flowers. Her impatience was a mask as to how she really felt, inside she was excited to head to the beach and see her long term boyfriend Travis.

I looked at my reflection. My long black hair had a slight wave to it and tickled the middle of my back. My grey sun dress covered my bikini, but my fair shoulders were still visible. I grabbed the sun block and shoved it into my white canvas bag then grabbed my sunglasses and shut off my music playing from my laptop. Before I could exit my room, Janine was at leaning on my door frame with a motherly look on her face.

“Look at you! You clean up so nice.” She smiled and pinched my cheek. I swatted her hand away and walked past her into the hallway. As she began to close the bedroom door behind us, my kitten ran past with a flash of black.

“Jesus Christ!” Janine said with a bit of panic. I smiled and reached down picking up the warm and silky cat.

“No. Lucifer.” I laughed and kissed the top of Lucifer’s head. I set him down and he dashed into my room.

“You are so freaking weird. But tonight none of your weird dark shit! We are on the hunt for a man for you to go home with.” Janine said as she practically ran the stairs.

“Oh no no no! I am perfectly happy with my boy-drama free life. Besides, Lucifer is the only one I need.”

Janine gave me a serious face, “Don’t say that around the campfire tonight.”

I laughed as we walked out of the house and made our way to Janine’s little white Toyota. She and I were complete opposites and yet we had been friends since elementary school. When she wore white, I wore black. When she listened to pop music, I listened to heavy metal. But through all the differences, she and I always stayed as friends. We rarely fought and when we did, we made up to each other by ice cream and a handful of horror movies.

As we pulled away from my suburban home, I pulled out our traveling CD and put it into her stereo system. We had made a CD of our favorite songs that switched from her type of music to mine. The first song that played was some poppy electronica song that she loved. She sang along and wiggled around to the song; I laughed and checked my phone. I had received one text, but before I could even open it Janine turned down the music.

“What’s his name, what does he look like, and will I approve?”

I laughed, “It’s none of your business. I haven’t been talking to anyone.”

“Oh really now?! I find that hard to believe because I saw you talking to a guy the other day in the hallway. What’s his name damnit?!”

I sighed and opened the text. It was from him. Cameron. I blushed and threw my phone into the bag.

“Well? Did he text you? What he say?!” Janine jabbed me with her elbow.

“I don’t know… It’s probably nothing.”

“Well maybe he’s seeing if you’re going tonight. Maybe someone invited him after seeing you talking to him.”

“WHYYYY?!” I slammed my head into the head rest. I wanted to kiss her but then punch her. I reached into the bag and retrieved my phone.

Hey just seein if ur comin tonight.

I smiled and quickly texted back.

Yah. Headin over there now. Ill see u then :)

As I sent the text, my heart raced. This was going to be a great night. I could just feel it.

Aw that was a cute beginning! I hope that they get together and make cute fictional character babies lol I love Janine already she's exactly the kind of friend I am! Playing super matchmaker for her less fortunate friends sigh a girl after my own heart :) Anyways this was an amazing start! Everyone was interesting, the story seems fun! The beginning was a little dark so I'm expecting this book is gonna get a little dark too? I also can't wait to meet the boy she likes! Hopefully I approve of him too because if not I'm totally gonna behead him! Estoy Jugando! lol Just kidding! But really though I can't wait to meet him and hopefully I'll be able to jump into a boat and ship them to infinity and beyond! Even though I'm still totes team Janine!
