It was Friday, the day of my parent’s and Easton’s funeral. I woke up, but just laid there. Memories started going through my mind, when Easton and I got in trouble for making a fort in the living room, but then Momma got in and played with us. The time when Daddy took us deep sea fishing the first time, Easton caught a sea bass no bigger than his hand but I had caught a five foot long hammerhead shark. All of these memories had my stomach in knots.

Hayden came in and with one look at me he came over to me and wrapped his strong arms around me and gave me a hug. I cried into his shoulder. He kissed my forehead just like Easton would when I cried.

He eventually told me we all had to get ready. I took a shower and dressed in a knee length kind of slim fitting dress, it was too warm to dress in anything bulky. I curled my hair and put on my heels and grabbed a black clutch. I also I put on the necklace I had taken from the house before I left.

I walked out and heard Jason crying in the nursery. I walked in and saw him, all dressed up in a little white shirt and navy slacks. He was trying his hardest to stand up and I guess he got frustrated. I helped him stand up in his crib, he gave me this big smile when he stood up. A smile full of pure innocence, and joy. I picked him up out of his crib and placed him up on my hip. He started reaching for the necklace and played with the diamond that hung delicately from my throat.

While walking out I saw Momma Trotter and when she saw me she stopped in her tracks.

“Lacie, you look exactly like your mother.” She looked like she was about to cry. She wasn’t the only one.
“Thank you,” I said and my voice cracked. She took Jason and I walked down the stairs towards the kitchen. Hayden was there braiding Allie’s hair. I stood in the entrance, leaning against the rail watching them.

“When you’re the oldest, you have to know how to do stuff.” He said not looking up from her hair. I walked in and sat down next to him.

“I see,” I watched his rough hands work with her hair. When he was done she hopped down off his knee. He was wearing the same thing as Jason, only with a navy tie. He looked, solemn. He didn’t have a smile on his face like he usually does. I put my head on his shoulder and he traced little circles on the palm of my hand, when I was crying the first night I was here he figured out that calmed me down.

Daddy Luke came in with the girls and Momma Trotter had Jason. Hayden and I rode in the truck while the other got into the van.
We rode to the church and all of my family was there, all of them. This included my less than favorite aunt and her husband and my less that desirable cousins. I could honestly say that them being there made this entire mess worse.

I saw Jonathon there and I came up to him and hugged him. He saw the tears in my eyes and kissed my forehead.

I could feel a pair of my eyes burn into my back. I turned around and saw my cousin, Caelyn. She was wearing a skin tight strapless dress that came to just below her butt, of course paired with way to much makeup and way too high stripper heels. She walked towards us with her beady eyes narrowed.

“It disrespectful to show affection during a funeral, don’t be such a easy slut Lacie.” She said with her eyes on Jonathon.

“Its also disrespectful to show your a** Caelyn!” I said, I didn’t want to deal with her.

“Your just jealous your not petite like me, and your built like a line backer.” She said as she not so subtly crossed her arms and pushed out her boobs. “Why are you giving her attention when Im right here sexy.” She said to Jonathon while tracing her nasty finger across his arm.

“Maybe cause I don’t like easy sluts.” He said as he took my hand in his. Her jaw dropped.

“Fine, bye Lacie.” She twitched away and I almost burst into tears. Jonathon kissed my hand while he was still holding it and we walked away.

The service was already over and so was the burial. It was beautiful, and it gave me closure, finally. I wasn’t really sad anymore, it was more like I was just going to miss them. I knew they were in a better place and that was all that mattered.

We were sitting in the fellowship hall eating when I heard my Aunt Shelia yell my name. I turned around and saw her twitch towards me.

“How dare you call my beautiful daughter an easy slut!” She screamed and anger spread threw me. When I get angry it goes to my fists, and they were balled tight.

“What are you talking about?! She called me the slut!” I said as the entire room was staring at us.

“Your such a little liar! Just your b**h of a mother!” Caelyn smirked at me and stepped in front of me.

“I always wanted this necklace.” She snatched my mother’s necklace off my neck.

That’s when I punched my cousin in the jaw.

She fell to the ground and spit out blood and teeth. I reached down to her and grabbed my mother’s necklace out of her tiny fist and I walked away.

My aunt ran after me. She grabbed my shoulder and spun me around.

“You b**t! No one does that to my daughter!” She slapped me and walked away to Caelyn.

Momma Trotter came up to me and gave me some ice for my fist, I just started to realize that it hurt.

I looked over at Jonathon and Hayden and I mouthed “I’m sorry” to them.

Jonathon came up to me and hugged me and I gladly stepped into his strong arms.

We left and as I was walking out I saw all of the little kids outside, thankfully they didn’t see any of that.

It was just me Hayden and Jonathon that left everyone else stayed.

We went home and I was too upset to walk. Jonathon picked me up and set me down on my bed and laid beside me and we talked while Hayden made us food.

We went down to the basement and watched some stupid movies to get our minds off what happened.

“….Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming…..” Hayden was singing along with dory and I could not stop laughing.

I looked at Jonathon and he smiled at me and took my hand and started playing with my fingers. Colton and Jordyn came down and they were holding hands..awh.

We watched the Wal-Mart rap video and all the guys tried to shake they’re booties like those girls. I was crying when Colton and Jonathon were actually doing it pretty good.

Jordyn and I stared doing it, poor Jordyn she didn’t really have a butt to begin with. Apparently I was doing it pretty good because all the guys were just cheering, or laughing…either way!

After all of that mess we sat around and I listened to Jonathon and Hayden tell the story about today. Let’s just say they exaggerated a bit.

“….And then she knocked her out with one punch! I can’t believe her!” Hayden said.

“That’s my girl!” Jonathon said as he started playing with my fingers again. He had a big smile on his face and just looked happy.

I smiled at him and snuggled into him, he was sitting on the couch and he had his arm around my waist playing with my fingers.

We stayed there and talked but soon it was two a.m. and time to go home.

Colton and Jordyn left and Jonathon was walking me up to my room.

“Lacie I got a question for ya.” He said when we got to my door.

“Yes?” I said with a little smile.

“Would you consider going out with me?” He said with a hopeful voice looking down at me with his gorgeous eyes.

“Jonathon..I..” My phone rang and it was Caelyn.

It was a text so decided to let it go.

“Yes I will Jonathon.” I said with a smile.

“Yes you’ll consider or yes you will?” He said with a goofy smile on his face.

“You’re such a loser Jonathon.” I said with a smile and he leaned down to kiss me. It was just a peck but it was sweet and warm.

"I'm your loser though right?"

"Yes sir." I smiled up at him.

He kissed me one more time and he left and when I got in my room I read the text from Caelyn.

“Enjoy him Lacie darling, but remember I ALWAYS get what I want..”
