Chapter 12

Roy’s POV:

“What?” I said, raising my eyebrow at Jessica’s request.

“Tutor me. I’m flunking math and that seems like the only subject you’re actually good at.” She explained. “So you tutor me, and I’ll help you with your subjects. It’s a fair trade.”

“Not interested.” I stated coldly. “I’m busy with my own things; I don’t need you bugging me.”

“Well aren’t you sweet?” I could hear the sarcasm in her voice. I let out a light chuckle, and Jessica continued to glare at me.

“Actually Roy…” Stephanie started. “I also need help in math.”

“Come on over to my place, I help you.” I said jokingly, winking at Stephanie.

“Hey!” Jessica screamed, as me and Stephanie started laughing at our elves.

“Relax Jessica, were only joking. I got no problems tutoring you.” It’s hilarious how amusing it is to screw around with Jessica. Even Stephanie is joining in.

“I expected this from you, but why did you have to join in Stephanie? You’re supposed to be my best friend?”

“What can I say, we Sanders have to stick together.” I said, as I began to laugh. Jessica gave Stephanie a look of disapproval and joined me in my laughter.

“You guys suck.” Jessica said, at this point just going with it.

“So you need a ride today?”

“Yeah, I’ll get a ride.”

“Alright, I’ll see you at 3:00pm.” I said walking away. Stephanie and Jessica just waved their hands goodbye.

We arrived at my house around 3:30pm. It’s only a 15 minute drive, but Stephanie wanted to stop for a bite to eat.

“You can lay your stuff over there.” I said walking into the house. Jessica was about to lay her bag on the couch when I noticed something. “Wait!” I saw that there was a mug on the coffee table. I didn’t leave that there.

“Roy, what’s wrong?”

I saw that some other things were moved, and I knew that someone was here. “Jessica, run!” I ordered as I flipped the table over, looking for the gun I had stuck to the bottom.

Jessica’s POV:

“Jessica, run!” he ordered flipping over his table. What’s going on?

“Looking for something?” A man asked walking out from the kitchen, pointing a gun at Roy.

“Johnny.” Roy muttered standing back up. Who’s Johnny? I took a closer look at the man that stood before us. He was tall, and thin. His chin was kind of pointy, he had light brown hair, and he had a white suit on, and black rimed sunglasses.

“R-Roy, do you know this guy?”

“Roy? Is that the name you go buy now? Or is that your real name?” What is this guy going on about? “Well, which is it, Lance?”

“Johnny, she has nothing to do with this, let her go.”

“What, and let her call the cops, no way.” He pulls out a piece of metal from his pocket and screws it onto his gun. “But you know, that doesn’t answer the question.”

He fires off the gun in my direction, without it making any noise, and I felt the bullet brush past my hair. “Roy! My real name is Roy.” Roy blurted out as I dropped to my knees, fear flooding through me.

“Good, now let’s catch up shall we? It’s been long time since we’ve seen each other. How have you been?”

“Please, Johnny, I’ll go with you, whatever you want, just let her go!”

*Sigh* “Trying to get straight to it, just like old times. Well fine, you see I’ve been ordered to just let you know that were in town. I’m not allowed to hurt you, but your little girlfriend over there…” He raises the gun at me and fires off another shot. A sharp pain ran through my arm as I fell to the ground.

“Jessica!” Roy shouts, quickly dropping to the ground, putting pressure on my wound.

“Oh? So that’s the little whores’ name?” He laughed to himself as he made his way to the door. “As much as I love watching you squirm, I got to report back to the boss. Don’t try to leave town, or we may have to pay Jessica here a visit. See you soon La… I mean Roy.” The man left the house, and Roy started swearing on himself.

“It isn’t polite to swear in front of a woman.” I said jokingly, as I moan in pain.

“Keep pressure on that. I’ll call an ambulance.”

“No!” I shouted, catching him by surprise. “This is a gunshot wound, they’ll call the police.”

“I said no!” I shouted, cutting him off. The pain shot through my arm and I fell back to the ground.

“Alright, just give me a minute.” He raced upstairs, and came back down with the first aid kit.

Having nothing else, Roy pulled out the bullet with a pair of needle nose pliers. The pain was overwhelming, but I managed to bear with it. He then disinfected my wound, and wrapped it in bandages.

“I’m no doctor, but that should help at least. How are you feeling?”

“I’ll be alright, but Roy, how do you know that guy? Why did he call you Lance? Just who are you?”

Roy’s POV:

I just sat there, taking in her questions, but not answering. I was too worried. I didn’t know how to handle the situation. How did they find me? Do they know everyone I’ve been in contact with? What should I do?

“Roy!” Jessica shouted, slapping me across the face.

“What the hell!”

“What? You wouldn’t answer any of my questions.”

“What is it you want me to say? That I was once a member of one of the most powerful criminal originations in New York! That they crossed the line and I wanted out! Or that I killed there old leader, so now the new one want’s me dead!” I turned my back towards Jessica, tears thick in my eyes. “What have I gotten you into?”

Jessica wraps her arms around me from behind, pulling me into a hug. “It’s Ok. Start from the beginning.”
