Literary giant Kurt Vonnegut is dead. My tribute to the great American writer.

VONNEGUT

You went to war.

And the things you saw

made you weep.

So from then on

you used laughter

as your weapon

against the absurdity

of Planet Earth,

and those who walk upon it.

You were a pilgrim,

travelling through time

to reach conclusions

that brought us down to earth.

Now you have gone.

But the words live on.

Wild, fanciful and free,

they swirl around me

as I return to Starbuck and Trout

and try to figure out

the absurdity

 of Planet Earth,

and those who walk upon it.

I am a big fan of Kurt and his wonderful sense of the absurd. Nice to read this tribute to him.

And hardly a politically correct phrase to be found in his creative language. He knew all the writing "rules" and broke them flagrantly, with spectacular results. Mt best tribute is to read all the books again. Thanks for comments.
