I nodded and followed her directions, and opened the door.

“Jo?” I walked towards the bed and noticed somebody else there, “Oh!”

“Mm? Em, what’re you doing here?” Jo asked.

“You texted me lastnight.”

“I know,” she laughed, “I texted you many times.”

“Who’s he?” I motioned to the sleeping body next to her.

“Oh, this?” she pointed at him, “I think his name is Jake, don’t you remember him?”

“From where?”

“School, he was in one of your classes, um, Biology? You said you didn’t like-”

“Him because he didn’t do anything.” I finished for her, “Yeah, I remember him now.”

I stood there awkwardly for a moment before asking, “so, do you still want that ride home?”

She laughed, “Yeah, give me 5, I’ll meet you down at the car.”

I nodded as I walked out of the room, and I was just about to head out the door and back down to the car when I remembered that Mel brought my purse up. I walked back to the couch and I saw Spencer, and I smiled.

“Hey, I know I’ve said this a million times already, but thank you, for everything.”

“It’s not a problem.” He said as he put his hand on my shoulder, “I’m here for you if you need anything.”

I leaned up and kissed him on the cheek and whispered thank you in his ear and pulled away.

“I’ll see you around.” I said with a smile, and walked out the door. I was walking down to the car, and I heard someone running behind me. I stopped walking and turned around.

“What was that!” Jo exclaimed, “You and Spencer, really?! What about Derek?”

“I, I…”

“What happened? Spill.”

I started walking back to the car, and it wasn’t until we were both in the car I started talking.

“Derek lied to me,” I stared at the floor, “he texted me saying… saying that he was going out of town last night, and I said okay. Well, after you and I split up, this guy hit on me, and I walked away, and I went upstairs to the bathroom, and he was in there with another girl, making out. He ran after me, and I told him to leave me alone, and I broke up with him… How long was he cheating on me for? But anyways, after that, I went outside, and Spencer came and joined me and took me upstairs to a guest room.-”

“Wait, Spencer took you into a room?! And what did he do?!”

“He, he calmed me down, and got me to fall asleep. Nothing happened. Then today, he looked after me. When I went down here earlier this morning, Derek… he got after me, and kissed me, and kept kissing me, after I told him not too. That happened after I read all of his text messages, as well as yours and Mom’s. Melanie told him to leave and to never touch me again or she’d be dealing with him and yeah… Jo, my… dad.”

“Oh, Em.” She said sympathetically, “What happened with your dad?”

“He called me today, he said,” I cleared my throat, “he said… Jo, he was pissed. He yelled at me, he accused me of sleeping with a bunch of people. I’m scared.”

“The nightmares, they’re back in full swing, aren’t they? She asked.

“Come on, let’s go, out, I’m driving.”

We both got out of the car and traded places.

“I’m taking you home, and I’ll be there with you. I won’t let you go through this alone again, I promise.”

I nodded and whispered thank you. After about 5 minutes, I was beginning to fall asleep.

“Em, go to sleep. I’ll wake you when we get there.”

And I did just that, and Jo woke me up when we got to my mom’s.

“Hey, Em? We’re here.”

“Mm… N-no, don’t make me go, Jo, please.”

“Em, I’m here with you.”

She looked at me, and got out of the car, and I followed. I stood at the front door for a moment before entering. When I opened the door, I was not surprised.

“Emily Leanne Archer. Inside now.” My father demanded.

I walked inside, but my dad put his hand up, “Sorry, Josephine, this is between Emily, and I.”

“No!” she protested, “I’m not leaving her alone! I told her I wouldn’t.”

“It’s okay, Jo.” I said softly, “He’s right.”

I didn’t want Jo there when he hit me, I knew he would hit me no matter what, even if she was here.

“No, I told you I’m not leaving.” She said sternly as she stepped inside.

“Suit yourself.” My father said.

He walked into the living room and ordered me to follow him.

“Why are you here?” I asked carefully.

“Your mother called me, she doesn’t know what to do with you.”

“I’m sorry, I- I’ll try harder. I’ll stop.” I whispered.

“Sorry?!” He yelled “Child, sorry isn’t good enough!”

“Please, don’t” I begged.

I knew my dad didn’t love me, I knew he hated me, I stole Mom away from him, I wish he understood that I was sorry, and if he could take her back, I would leave forever.
