He nodded and walked back upstairs. I sat there for a while, it was probably 5am when I finally decided to get up and start moving around. I figured that I should just get ready for the day, rather than go to sleep for a few hours. I went upstairs to go shower and what not, then to go read. At about 7, I pulled out my phone, and opened the casing around my phone and looked at the note and number from Spencer.

“Hey, what’cha lookin’ at?” I heard Jo say groggily.

I smiled, “um, you know…”

She sat up, and came and sat on my bed and looked down at the piece of paper in my hand.

“Oh, just go call him!” She said while getting up to get ready. “I’m serious, Em! Get off that bed, and go call the poor guy!”

I laughed, and went to go call him. I listened to the ringing for a minute or so it felt.

“Hello?” I heard a tired voice say.

“Spencer?” I asked.

“Mm, yep.”

“It’s Emily, I… thank you.”

“Emily? Oh! Right, hi! I, I wanted to ask, is everything okay?”

“I… I don’t know. In time, probably.”

“Where are you staying? I’m assuming not at home.”

“You’re right, I’m a couple of hours away, I think. I’m not sure, I slept most of the way here.”

“Okay, next question, are you okay?”

“Yeah… No.” I admitted, “I really need to talk to someone.”

“I’m all ears.”

“I just…” I looked up and Jo waved as she left the room. “I don’t think I can go back. I don’t feel safe, well with my dad, or even Derek. And, I’m sorry for dragging you into this.”

“Hey, you didn’t drag me into it, I put myself in it to help you, because… well, I care. If you do come back, that’d be great, because despite your father, and Derek, there are people here that still care about you, Em.”

“Yeah, I guess that’s true. I have a favour to ask.”

“Could you stop by my place and see if my mom is home, and tell her that I’m okay, and that I’ll call her when I figure everything out.”

“Of course. And if she freaks out?”

I laughed, “Tell her not to shoot the messenger.”

“And I’ll hope that she doesn’t” he said with a laugh. “I gotta go, and get ready to do some stuff, I’ll talk to you soon, okay?”

“Okay, and Spencer? Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Em.” He said as he hung up.

I smiled, I was glad that I was able to talk to Spencer. I got up off the bed and grabbed my bag of clothes and headed to the bathroom. I jumped in the shower, then got ready for the day. When I went back into the bedroom I saw Jo putting my phone back down on the end table.

“What are you doing?” I questioned.

“My phone wasn’t sending messages, and I wanted to see if it still wasn’t.”

“Oh, and is it?”

“Still nothing.” She sighed, “Oh well, it’s a nice day out anyways.”

“I nodded, “I’m gonna go and wander around outside. So, if you need me, that’s where I’ll be.”

“What? First you don’t sleep at night, then you’re skipping breakfast, Em, talk to me.”

“I’m afraid of sleeping, I don’t want to have nightmares. I talked to Ryan last night, and we’re willing to put the past in the past.”

“Well, that’s good. Who’s side is he from?”

“My dad’s.”

“Em, I want you back here to eat lunch, I don’t want you to make yourself sick, okay?”

“Yes, Mother.” I stuck out my tongue.

“Was that Spencer you were talking to earlier?”

“Mhm.” I mumbled.

“Ah ha! You finally called him!”

“Okay, okay! I’m going outside, see you at lunch!”

I left the room before she could say anything. I began wandering around the place then I saw a trail leading into the forest. Curiosity got the best of me and I started to head down the trail. I followed the trail for a good half an hour before I came to an opening which had a massive garden. I came to a stop and stared in awe at the sight before me.

“It’s beautiful here, isn’t it?” a voice said from behind.
