I’m in a meadow. It is truly magical. A place this beautiful cannot exist. Every leaf on every tree is vibrant green and the water in the river is a beautiful cobalt blue. There was little bird chirping their joyful melody. I can see a dear in the distance, grazing the grass peacefully. Everything was so calm. Everything about this meadow was bursting with life. I turn around and I can see him. Every time, I expect him not to be there but he never disappoints.

I look at him and smile. I start to make my way towards him and he does the same. We are in perfect sync. It’s like he knows where I am going to step and what I’m going to do at each moment. He mimics my movements perfectly.

We reach each other exactly at the middle.

We continue to look at each other for a while until he breaks the silence.

“How are you?” he asks me with a smile.

“I’m good, how are you?” I reply.

“I’m good” he replies. We make out way to a tree near the river and sit down under it. We don’t say anything. I stare into his green eyes and listen to the beautiful song of the birds. It was perfect. I could stay here forever just staring at him without say a word.

We just sit there for a long time until I subconsciously break the silence.

“What’s your name?” I ask him. “I need to know your name. We have known each other for what? Three months now but I still don’t know your name.” He chuckles and looks down.

“I don’t know your name either” he says in reply.

“I know but don’t you think we should tell each other our names at least?” I ask him. “We should have told each other when we met. Isn’t that the first thing you do when you meet someone?”

“True” he says. He thinks about it for a moment. “Okay. My name is Connor. Connor James. What’s yours?”

“My name is Ashley Taylor”

“That’s a beautiful name” he says. He leans in towards me. We are but half an inch apart. But everything disappears.

The river was gone. The trees were gone. The birds were gone. But most importantly… he was gone.

My eyes open abruptly and I find myself on a plane. The plane that I had boarded with my friend, Rose, not 7 hours ago. I take out the picture I drew of the boy whose name I know now is Connor. I stare at his picture while holding my necklace with my engagement ring on it.

Immediately, I felt guilty.

“Did you dream about him again” Rose says suddenly, making me jump. I turn to look at her.

“Yeah” I reply. “I feel so guilty thinking about him after what happened. But, I feel as if I have known him forever. I feel as if I know everything about him but in reality, I know nothing.”

“Look, I can’t imagine what it is like for you and the amount of pain that you must have been in. Even now, three months later. But you need to get over him. He is not going to come back. There is nothing anyone can do to bring him back. You know that. I feel sorry for you and him as well. He didn’t deserve to go like that at such a young age, but that’s life.” Rose says “but think about it. He would have wanted you to move on and you should. You shouldn’t feel guilty. It is good that you are thinking about this mystery boy, even if he is just a dream. This is how you start to move on. Get to know him better. Shall I suggest by finding out his name first?”

“I know his name” I say quickly, looking down at the drawing of him again.

“Since when? You didn’t think to mention?”

“Relax, I only found out not 10 minutes ago” I say to her.

“What is it?” she asks me.

“That’s none of your business” I say jokingly.

“Come on, you tell me everything else but you won’t tell me this?” She says punching my arm playfully. I smile.

“His name is Connor” I say.

“Connor. And it only took… what? Three months?” I look at her again.

“I know he would have wanted me to move on but what’s the point if it is only a dream? I don’t even know if Connor exists. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t though” She looks at me sympathetically.

“You should get out more often then. Meet some real people” Rose says “I’ve know you for a long time. I can tell that Connor is making you really happy. You need to meet someone like him and move on”

“If only it was that easy” I say. I lean my head on the window and sigh. I listen to the wind rushing past us and close my eyes, trying to imagine the speed at which we are travelling. But this was interrupted by the voice of the pilot telling us that we will be flying over Paris shortly and in an hour, we will be landing in Rome.

I look out the window of the plane as we fly over Paris. Its dark and we are about 10 000 feet above ground level but that doesn’t mean that I can’t see anything. I look down and I can see the City of Lights. Of course I can’t make out the details. I can’t see the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Triomphe but I can see the lights. It was named truthfully. I could see millions of tiny pinpricks of light everywhere.

What an amazing sight it is.

“I can’t believe that this is really happening” I say turning to Rose, changing the subject “I’ve dreamt about this for as long as I can remember” she smiles

“You and me both” she says. We didn’t say anything to each other for the rest of the flight. The next hour couldn’t have gone any slower. But eventually, after what felt like hours, we landed. I was incredibly excited as we were getting off of the plane that I could barely keep my balance. I had to hold on to the railing to stop myself from falling.

I cannot explain what was going through my head as it was incomprehensible, even to me. I haven’t even left the airport but it is already so beautiful. I could wait for the drive to get to hotel. I couldn’t wait to go to the hotel to see the view of the whole city from our room. I couldn’t wait till tomorrow so I could start the tour. We are staying here for a month before going to Paris.

I felt as if my head was going to explode!

We got through all the boring stuff like immigration, customs and picking up out baggage until we were finally out. To me, the airport never feels as if you are in the country in which the airport is in. When you step out, that is when you are really there. The airport feels like you are nowhere. The excitement that was in me as we stepped out of airport was tremendous.

We had to cross the road to find the taxi that we booked so we waited at the pedestrian crossing.

Rose crossed a few seconds before me, and then I cross. I was half way to the other side when I suddenly saw a car speeding towards me.

My head told me to run, but I couldn’t move.

I tried to run but nothing happened. I was frozen. I started to panic. I could feel it. My heart was racing. I kept trying to run, but it was no use. All my dreams are going to be shattered before they have even started to come true. I closed my eyes, preparing myself to feel the impact of the car on my body.

But the impact I felt was from a different direction. A direction I didn’t expect. I knew it was the car. It wasn’t strong enough to be. No, I couldn’t have been anything but a person. I felt my body fall on the hard ground. Whoever it was who moved me carried me to the other side of the road. My eyes were still close. This all happened in a matter of seconds but it felt like a long time. I couldn’t process it. I can’t believe how lucky I am.

The person put me down on a seat.

“Thank you so much” I said to them. I opened my eyes to see who it was.

I wasn’t expecting much, I had no idea who this would be, but I wasn’t expecting this. I looked at his face and I was struck by a wave of disbelief. I couldn’t be him. Could it?

“Don’t mention it” he says “I glad that you are okay”

“No seriously, you just saved my life” I managed to say. “I owe you everything”

“Don’t be silly!” he says. I see Rose walking towards me. “It was my duty to help someone who needed it. You don’t owe me anything.” He smiles. I smile as well.

“But thank you” I say again. “Please, I have to repay you somehow”

“Okay. How about we have lunch together tomorrow?” I nod.

“Sure! Sounds great” I say with a smile. “My name’s Ashley, by the way” I add. He offers me his hand.

“It’s nice to meet you Ashley. My name is Connor”
