“Who is that?”

Tate was only half paying attention to his roommate and his friend. The high school basketball game they’d dragged him too was actually pretty good. He was sitting on the side with the home team, hiding smiles when the fans protested a ref’s bad call. These people took their game seriously.

“That girl.”

Tate dragged his eyes away from the action on the court to see what had Kyle so intrigued. It soon made sense. In the doorway of the gym was a gorgeous girl, tall, slim, redheaded. And angry if he had her body language right. She was trying to get someone’s attention. She definitely had his.

“That would be Ry’s little sister, so when he gets back with the nachos, don’t mention her.”

“No way! He never mentioned his little sister was so hot.”

Tommy, Tate’s roommate, just rolled his eyes. “I wouldn’t even let slip that I had a little sister around you.”

Tate laughed but quickly turned it into a cough. There was a time out called, giving him more time to look at the girl. The girl who would be off limits once Ry got back. She’d pulled out her cell phone now and was tapping her foot impatiently. She probably had places to be. Friday night, she must have a date. He remembered her now. Ry was in the room next door, sharing a room with Kyle. Tate had come out in the hallway to get another box and had witnessed her trying to get a futon through the dorm room door. She’d smashed her fingers and had dropped it, proceeding to swear in a manner that would put her parents to shame. It had been funny really.

The girl gave up on the phone. The game started up again and Tate kept his gaze on her, watching as she stormed, gracefully, for the little table on the other side of the gym that was housing the score keeper, the buzzer, and the announcer. She waited for the ball to go out of bounds before walking on the sidelines, getting to the announcer before the game started up again. She took a seat next to the announcer, an older guy, probably a teacher, and said something.

Ry made it back with the food at the same time. He’d probably gotten cornered by all of his hometown buddies. He and Tommy seemed to know everyone, but it was a small school so that was entirely possible. The home team scored and everyone on this side jumped to their feet. The other team called a time out. “Jonathan Fitz, your sister is here. Jonathan Fitz, your sister is here.”

Some poor kid to his left had to get to his feet amid the laughter. The redhead smiled and waved and motioned that he was to meet her out in the hallway. The kid was red faced. She’d really ruined his street cred. “Aw, Keely,” Ry sympathized. “That wasn’t cool.”

“That your little brother?” Tate asked.

“Yeah. He’s spending the night at a friend’s and forgot his bag. She was supposed to bring it to him. He’s not very observant and she has no patience so it was doomed to come to this.”

A few minutes later Jonathan was back in the stands, a back pack with him. Now that Ry’s sister was gone, Tate put his attention back on the game.

The JV game finished and some of the crowd filtered out, either to leave or get food. After a thirty minute break the varsity game started up. This game wasn’t even close and it wasn’t because the home team was winning.

“Why can’t we leave?” Kyle asked Tommy.

“Trust me, you’ll enjoy the rest of the game.”

At half time it all became clear. “Our half time entertainment tonight is the Logan drill team, dancing their country-western routine.” There were a bunch of high schoolers sitting on the floor, front and center, little kids were bouncing in their seats. The drill team must be good.

Tate could hardly believe his luck when the redhead was one of the dozen or so girls that took the gym floor. They were all decked out in little white tank tops, red bandana vests, different colored cowboy hats on top of their heads. She was smiling and whispering something to a blonde girl next to her. The girls struck their beginning pose, hats tilted jauntily, one hand on the brim.

She may not have been the prettiest or the best dancer, but she kept Tate’s interest. She just seemed to be enjoying herself, laughing when the routine called for them to toss their hat into the crowd. Hers landed right in his lap. For one brief second their eyes met and she smiled at him. It took him a second but he smiled back, a little stunned at what her smile could do to him.

After the girls made their exit there was another five minutes before the game started back up again. Within three Ry’s sister was seated next to Ry. “Sorry about tossing my hat at you,” she said, taking it when he held it out to her. “I was trying to hit Ry.”

“I wouldn’t have worried unless you were trying to hit Tate,” Ry said. “Where’s Kirsten? I thought you two had big plans tonight.” Tate may have been dense when it came to sibling conversation but he recognized the teasing in Ry’s tone.

“Yeah, watching the SyFy channel in our basement counts as big plans,” she said dryly. “We were all sent out to pick up our hats. Kirsten tossed hers at her mom.”

The teams were stopping their warm up shots. “I’d better go,” she said. “I don’t want to sit through the rest of the game.”

She nimbly stepped around people on the bleachers, waving over her shoulder as she headed for the closest door. She paused to call something to her younger brother, who was still probably ticked at the announcer deal. Within thirty seconds she was gone.

“Dude, she is so hot,” Kyle breathed, still staring at the door where she’d disappeared.

Ry leaned forward to glare at him around Tate. Kyle was clueless. “What’s with the death glare?” he asked.

Ry focused on the game. “You know what.”

“Well, excuse me. I didn’t know that she was out of bounds.”

“She is as far out of bounds as one can possibly be.”

This sounds really great! The prologue is so well written and promising. It's a really nice touch to have it from the guys perspective.
I honestly felt like hitting jackpot, finding this. I had some problem finding the beginning of the story (found chapter 5, and it was the only chapter for some reason...) but that chapter was so well written and addictive that I stalked you *u*
Hope you figure out how to add chapters (you can ask,if you want). I'm already hooked:D

Thank you so much! I had a great time writing this so I'm glad it is being enjoyed. I do have a question about posting chapters. I post new chapters but they're not showing up. When I click on them, it's like I've reposted the prologue. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. If someone can steer me in the right direction I would really appreciate it:)
