I woke with a haggard expression. Rolling out of Pietro's arms, I stumbled from the bed and to the door. My stomach rolled unpleasantly, and I softly began to weep. I'd never been more homesick than now. I covered my mouth in haste as the tears began to pour down my face. I ran down the hall with one hand covering my mouth, and the other was protectively rubbing my tummy. When I finally made it to the kitchen, I flipped on the lights and found a very startled Clyde enjoying a bowl of cereal.
"Jesus, Elsie!" He exclaimed with a laugh.
Then, he took in my expression.
"Oh, Elsie," He murmured.
I cried as Clyde strode across the room to take me in his arms. I stiffened a moment before I released my small sobs into Clyde's t-shirt.
"That's right. Cry all you need," Clyde murmured gently, rubbing my back.
For the first time in months, I felt safe.
