Chapter 16: The World Against Us

Instinct races across the land, at fifty miles an hour. She is confident that her pursuers are now far behind her. Her confidence however, starts to fade as she hears quick paced footsteps equal to her own.

She turns her head, and to her great surprise, the female FBI agent is in hot pursuit.

How...? Not important. I need to  get us away from here. I can sense water in the distance, I'll have to hurry.

She picks up the pace, but so does the agent.

How?! Is she like me?!

Miranda smiles as she starts to close in. A veteran of a particularly dangerous war in Iran, she had lost her arms and legs in a surprise bomb raid. However, she got new, artifical robotic legs and arms from the Human Advancement Research Corperation, the H.A.R.C. They allowed for extensive activity, but they had never been tested for speeds up to forty miles an hour. What she is doing is dangerous, the equipment could catastrophically fail.

Still, life without risk doesn't gain anything.

They race across the country, and Instinct starts to panic. After a few hours of non-stop running, Instinct finally sees the edge of a lake. Before she can cross the distance, she trips and falls on her face, lying in the mud in pain.

Miranda then comes to a stop, panting exhaustedly.

"Well, so here's where this nonsense ends. Are you ready to come quietly, or are you going to continue with this?"

Instinct struggles to her feet, raising her fists in a defensive stance.

"You're going to take me back to him, I'll never go back to the Director, I'd rather die!"

Miranda raises an eyebrow.

"Do you mean Director Issac? I am trying to arrest him, but the FBI needs a witness to what he's done."

"Is that so? I'm afraid I've got better plans than to help you out." She cautiously takes a step back towards the water.

"Forget about it. There's no where to go. You might as well give up."

"That's exactly what I was going to say." The echoing, blazing voice of EX80A burns from behind them.

They both turn in alarm, and see him as firey as ever. He looks even more like a dragon than before, with massive molten claws. He cracks his knuckles, as an army of soldiers file in.

"You have no idea what kind of trouble you are in." EX80A snarls.
