Chapter 19: A NORMAL Friend

"So, where are you from? Are you from L.A., or are you from somewhere else here in California?" The girl asks.

"Um... no... I think... it was somewhere... to the southeast?"

"Well what are you doing this far west?"

"I just lost my sense of direction, I guess." Sara replies meekly.

"I can see that you don't want to talk about it. I'll make you some hot chocolate for you, I'll be right back!"

We could just kill her and make this our hideaway until we can find a quicker way to Florida.

NO! We can't just kill her! What's wrong with you?!

I don't know. What's wrong with you?

...How long should we stay?

Not very long. We don't know if the Director has found us yet. And as for the other man... he feels like a man with resources, both good and bad. He also seemed to have some resentment of the Director, I don't know why.

In a far off cabin, Gunther sits in a dark corner, whispering into a phone.

"Listen. Director Lewis, I know you don't believe me, but what I've said is true. I will even testify in court."

"You're not even going to try to defend your innocence?" A man's voice says sharply from the other end.

"No sir. What matters is that I prove his crimes, even at the extent of my own freedom and honor."

The man sighs. "You're a good man, Gunther. I wish that we could find a way out of this situation for you." The man coughs.

"Listen. You need to fool him, as long as you can. Find this experiment that you claim, and bring it to us. Keep pretending to work for him, but as soon as you aquire it, bring it to us."

"She is NOT an IT." Gunther snarls.

"...I'm sorry. Once you've found her, let me know."

Gunther snaps the phone shut, then places it on a table. He goes to the far wall, and activates a button. He then runs, and gets a fair distance before the bomb explodes, destroying any evidence of his whereabouts and his call.

Now to round up EX0L8 before she can cause any harm... if she hasn't already.

After dinner and a mug of hot chocolate, Sara and the girl start having a decent chat.

"So... I never did ask your name, what is it, if you don't mind me asking?" Sara asks her companion.

"My name's Racheal, what's your name?"

"S-Sara. My name's Sara."

"Well, it's been fun meeting with you!"

Sara yawns, but Racheal doesn't seem to notice.

"So what are you going to do? Find a place to get some money? I'd be happy to- oh, you fell asleep. Ok, see you tommorow." She laughs lightheartedly.

She then smiles. "Poor girl, I wonder what kind of trouble you've gone through..." She heads upstairs to her bedroom, and from there, she turns the lights of the house off, and drops into bed. She takes no time falling asleep.

The Director frowns. "Mellial, scan for the chemical Xenophain, I have a bad feeling."

"You mean on the chemical scanner? But why? Do you think...?" His new assistant yelps, nervous. Her orange-red hair is long and freeflowing, with curls at the end. Her green eyes twinkle nervously.

"I don't know... just check."

As she reads the findings of her scan, her face grows pale.

"We have a positive score of 100% in Los Angeles! Who ever is infected, they have to be close by to EX0L8!"

The Director curses. "If news of a experimental species gets to the FBI, we're finished. They already suspect we are up to something. Send word to Gunther immediatly. We've found her again."
