Chapter 2: Lina

"Name please," Lina looked at the long list of names in front of her, twisting the pen between her fingers.

A shadowed figure stepped closer, silently pleading and whispering. "Haley," it whispered. Lina narrowed her eyes at the shadow, trying to be menacing and angry like dad had taught her.

"Well, Haley," she sneered "Welcome to Hades. I'm sure my dad would absolutely love to extend his greetings to unwanted filth. Now move on." Her voice dripped with sarcasm.

The shadow moved past quickly, being sent to whatever punishmen ti thad earned. This was all routine for Lina. She spent most of her time down here, letting in ghosts and spirits to Hades. Today, she felt as if NOTHING exciting would ever happen. Let in a few dead people? Whatever.

She fixed her dark brown eyes on the portal that opened to the mortal world. Sometimes, she wished to go there and see what it was like- but she knew better.

Two figures appeared in the portal, both screaming at top volume. Lina had a sharp intake of breath as she watched the two mortals walk up to her. One was tall, dishwater hair, and a pale skin tone. This mortal was talking away like there was no tomorrow.

The other mortal was more normal. She had blonde hair, and looked like she could outsmart anyone, anyday. This made Lina look over herself. Did she look tough enough? Should she bring them to her father?

"Hey!! Look, they have someone to tell us where to go and everything!!" The first mortal said.

"Zoey, shut up. This place doesn't look to inviting." The second said in a hushed tone.

Lina could hear everything. She smirked in satisfaction, knowing that it DIDN'T look inviting.

Zoey stepped forward, smiling brightly at Lina. "Hi. I'm Zoey. And I was wondering-"

"Are you dead or what?" Lina interrupted.

Zoey stopped talking, a big confused expression on her face. Kate looked on incredulously.

"Oh. My. God. You got her to shut up." Kate said, astonished.

Lina shrugged, "It's a talent of mine. Okay, so you here to see my dad?"

Kate looked at her blankly.

"You know....Awesome, evil villian. My dad. Hades?" Lina sighed, hopping down from the podium.

The sickly green and black ground shifted; green wisps of smoke wrapping around her legs. Lina led them forward, trying to conceal her look of excitement. Finally, something was happening!

She led up and around the long narrow passage ways. Each step made the room cold, every minute and second they got closer to meeting Hades.

Finally, Lina pushed through the doors to her father's 'office'. It was a large room with a bunch of his junk really- including his wife, Persephone.

Zoey and Kate both looked at the room in awe, trying to decipher whether this was real or not. But it was completely real. Everything was pure factual evidence. Strangely, Zoey didn't say anything. Kate kept scanning over everything, wanting to take pictures or something.

"Hey dad." Lina grinned, leaning against the wall.

Hades turned quickly, his black eyes lighting with cold fire. "Oh yes. Hello, Lina!" He smiled cruelly. "What do you want?" He snapped quickly. Hades pushed away the papers he was holding, turning completely to the girls.

"These guys came to see ya' " Lina explained.

Hades had a curious look on his face. He didn't understand why two mortals would come to him of all Gods. "Well it seems they're in the wrong place," he clapped his hands together, grinning wickedly. "These two belong back at that insufferable school that my brother has been talking about lately. Off you go." Hades pushed back his dark, flaming hair.

Lina watched quietly, unsure of what had gotten into her father. "Dad, you know-"

"Here's your bags dear." Persephone, a small doll-like figure handed Lina a suitcase.

Persephone's dark brown hair seemed to shimmer as she walked gracefully over to Hades. "We'll miss you Lina Beena."

"Oh shut the fu-" Lina began.

"Wait....." Zoey finally spoke up, looking uncertain and lost. "You're Hades?"

Hades just about had a heart attack. He laughed harder than any person ever had before. "Tell me she is not Aphrodite's?" He managed out.

Persephone giggled, her voice like wind. "Definitely not."

"Well, Lina I'm sending you and your friends off to that...SCHOOL. Have fun and try not to kill anyone." Hades pulled out a light blue orb, tossing it into the air. It expanded, engulfing Lina, Kate, and Zoey. Eithout another word, they were gone.
