The rest of the day passed in a blur of new friendship, blooming love and happy thoughts with no chance of an overcast. At last, after what seemed forever, the school day ended and I was free. I walked alone out of school to the nearby bus stop saying goodbye to my new friends as they hurried on to get home and come back out again to enjoy the late 3 o'clock sunshine. Caden, Enrique, Jonathan, Lucy had all exchanged numbers with me. I scrolled the contacts on my phone while I waited for the bus to come.

It was late which was okay because it was still sunny and warm so I sat on the short brick wall behind the bus shelter and waited. I started to text Lucy whilst listening to Bullet for my valentine-ALONE. She texted back. We began a conversation on what music we liked. I even dared to sent Enrique a text.

Hey x

I grinned feeling a little funny and anxious that I had added a kiss on the end of his message. I wished I could have walked down with the guys; I think I lived a little near Lucy. I didn't have to get the bus but Mama wanted me to meet her outside of her work which required me to get the bus. I turned my music off in order to find my purse in my bag and stuff my phone and earphones in there. I heard two girls talking quietly together but I didn't bother to look up. What was the point to attract yourself to others? I recognised those voices. I hunched down over my bag as my phone eliminated another buzz, two texts from Lucy and a text from.... Enrique?!

Enrique texted me; I was over the moon with joy! I quickly opened the text and read:

Where are u?

I texted back instantly.

At the bus stop a street down from school, sat on the wall behind it. Why?

I waited for a reply. Non came. The girls' voices got louder as they came closer. I saw their shadows but I don't think they could see mine. "I heard her tell Caden that she was getting on this bus to meet her mom or something, she meets her mom can you believe that? That's what we did in primary school!" That voice. I knew-know that voice from somewhere. Brain use your magnificent science skills and where is that voice from? Then I remembered suddenly. It was Rue's. I watched the girls waiting for them to notice me sat on the wall hunched over behind the bus shelter.

I hoped they would go away. I heard a rumble and saw my bus pull up then when the driver saw that the two girls were not going to get on he pulled back onto the road and sped off. Great; I'd missed my bus. For the first time in a long time I grew very scared. My phone, clutched in my hand, buzzed again. I prayed that they hadn't heard it; maybe they were after me? I don't know but I don't want to take that chance and find out. I read the text while they continued making remarks on the lack of my appearance.

I'm coming. If you see Anya and Rue stay away from them! x

I had to agree with him on that one. I was going to stay away from for as long as I could. But, after reading his text it made me feel strong. I put my phone into my pocket and shoved my bag over my shoulders. I took a deep breath and walked out from behind the bus shelter to face the girls. They looked a little shocked when I looked up at them through my fringe of dark auburn hair. "Hi" I muttered to them. Rue's face curled into a smirk. She must have thought I was scared or something. I looked over at Anya who looked back at me with a frown. I stared her down until she looked away then back at Rue.

"Rue just say what you have to and let's go she's not worth it" Anya shrugged and murmured to Rue. Rue responded by spitting onto the ground and rolled up her sleeves. I crossed my arms waiting for her to speak. She spat at the ground once more and flexed her skinny arms and I suddenly got what she was going to do. She was going to try and fight with me, or at least to take a swing at me. Oh Jesus what she crazy or something? She (Rue) took a step forward. I looked at her with wide eyes. She took a swing and I felt the impact instantly. "LEAVE HER ALONE!" A voice screamed.

I saw two figures racing down to the road and Anya looked back shocked. Rue stared for a millisecond then she legged it down the street with Anya hot on her heels. I watched them frowning then looked back at who was shouting. I saw the two figures come right up to me and a set of broad arms warp themselves around me which I accepted and much to my surprise I started to cry.
