Chapter 6: The Canadian Border

Research note:The Jericho is a bomb much like a pulse grenade but can have devastating results.Unlike the other bombs like an atomic or a nuclear bomb, the Jericho can be controlled.In other words, the explosion radius can be controlled and how big the explosion can also be controlled.The bomb is first programmed for the explosion radius and how much damage it can do.The bomb is then fired from a stealth P-14 on the requested targeted area and then the bomb takes care of the rest.The aftermath is that the vegetation and/or life forms are completely vaporized, making the area look like an aftermath of a forest fire.

Two days later…

An RPG missile zoomed over Eric’s head and into the sky.

“They just had to be at the border.” Jackson moaned, “I swear that bomb should’ve killed them all, but they just keep coming like ants in an anthill.”

In those two days, thousands of humanoids came to break the defenses of the border of Canada.The Canadian army, armed and equipped with the standard issue equipment, was aiding the Mechsoldiers in keeping the humanoids inside the States.

Eric ignored Jackson’s remark.It’s the only reason why they had to be in the hottest areas of the United States.President Howell made it clear that no Hybrid was to leave the United States.The Canadian Border Protection was helping keep the Hybrids out of their country.Though they are not augmented, they help the Mechsoldiers out however possible.

“Just shut up and keep firing.” Eric responded.He aimed and shot two humanoids. His squad was being sent to ambush the humanoids at the border wall to the south. But the ‘ambush’ didn’t turn out as what it was supposed to be.The humanoids outnumbered them by…Shall we say, fifty to five hundred.

Eric switched his firing rate to automatic and started shooting. He got hit in the leg and at the top of his head. A Kobra-57 tank rolled past Eric and shot huge beams of light at the humanoids, and smaller beams were being shot from the small cannons.Then an RPG missile zoomed straight into the tank but only exploded on the outer armor.

“You really gotta thank Xavier for such thick armor, but overshields would be very helpful.” Jackson marveled.

“I’m already thankful for what Xavier has already done, but I think that’s what he working on right now.” Eric yelled.

“He’s got it easy.”

Eric fired again at the humanoids, but then he saw a grenade hurdling toward him. He quickly ducked down and the grenade impacted the earth and exploded. Dirt fell on his armor, but Eric ignored it and continued firing.But then he was hit by a 30.06 round in the chest. Eric tracked the bullet to the shooter and killed the sniper, along with other humanoids.He brought up his armor integrity. 84% armor integrity.

Good enough, thought Eric.He shot through the heads of three humanoids and then he got hit by a couple rounds from M-16’s.

“Henry this is Nathan.” Eric’s com turned on, “The Canadian Border is reporting that there has been a breach in the wall just two clicks to the west. Get your team down there and take care of the problem before we have a crisis.”

“Copy that captain.My team, get down to the nav point that I’m now marking.”

Everyone acknowledged.In Eric’s HUD, a blue marker was positioned to the left of him. Jackson and he quickly ran to the marked location while getting hit by a few rounds of all sizes.Then an RPG missile crashed beneath Jackson’s feet sending him flying to the ground.Eric quickly scanned him and the results came up bad.His leg was fractured.

“Don’t move Jackson.” Eric yelled, throwing the sash over his shoulder, “Henry, Jackson got hit by a Rocket Propelled Grenade.His leg is fractured.”

“Copy that Eric, I’m sending a Kobra tank to your position. Standby.”

Eric held a hand out to Jackson, “Come one.”

But Jackson yelled, “Behind you!”

Before Eric could turn, he was slashed by a katana at the shoulder. He fell to the ground and the humanoid leapt on him raising the sword preparing to stab. But then a laser burned through the humanoid’s skull and fell to the ground. Eric quickly got up, throwing the sash off him and getting a grip on the gun. Then to the south, three humanoids came rushing to Jackson and Eric. He quickly took aim and fired two shots at the humanoids, but then something kicked his calf making him kneel to the ground and a knife to his throat. His training quickly kicked in and grabbed the arm, throwing the humanoid over him. He drew his own knife and stabbed the humanoid in the skull.

He looked up and he saw a humanoid coming too close to Jackson. Eric drew his side arm and fired a shot at the humanoid and the Hybrid fell to the earth, two feet away from Jackson. Eric slipped the sidearm back into its holster and picked up his rifle. He turned to the wall and instinctively shot the humanoid at pointblank.Then he turned his head to the right and saw the Kobra tank rolling toward them. But then a missile crashed into the tank, destroying it.Debris flew toward Eric as he ducked to the ground.

“Henry!The Kobra tank has been destroyed by a Maverick missile! They’re in control of aircafts.” Eric yelled.

“Copy that Eric.I’ll contact air support.In the meantime, you get Jackson to the G-47 Flagship. It’s five clicks from your position.”

“Affirmative.”Eric grabbed Jackson’s arm and hoisted over his shoulder. Jackson had his sidearm in hand.

“I got you back.” Jackson said. Eric nodded.

He started walking to the south to the Flagship while Jackson leaned on Eric hopping on one foot. Rounds were still hitting the back of their armors until they were well within the trees. The next clearing was about a hundred yards away.Eric checked his armor integrity. 72%.

Then he quickly scanned Jackson.There was a bullet embedded in his shoulder, just touching one of his capillaries. He kept this information to himself, knowing that Jackson has one hundred percent update on his body. But as he closed the window, Eric and Jackson were ambushed in all directions. A humanoid tackled Eric from behind pinning him on the ground. Jackson fell forward and another humanoid put a knee to his back.

Eric fought the humanoid that was wrestling him to the ground, reaching for his knife. But the humanoid knew what he was doing and pinned his hand to the ground. Then the humanoid drew a knife of his own and raised it in the air.Eric quickly scanned the humanoid for a possible weakness.He quickly found that the humanoid had a weak rib cage, obviously from broken ribs by CPR.With his free hand, he threw his fist into its ribs, cracking them.The humanoid fell back in pain and in agony clenching its chest. Eric quickly drew his knife and stabbed the humanoid in the head. He quickly drew his sidearm and shot the other three humanoids, but then he was kicked in the back of his head. He rolled over and saw a humanoid standing over him with a magnum aimed at his head. Then a blue beam shot its chest and the humanoid died.

Eric quickly got to his feet and rushed over to Jackson. He was laying on his stomach and his head down.

“Get to the breached wall Eric. Don’t worry about me.” Jackson said weakly.

Eric scanned him and found why he told Eric to leave. The bullet and punctured the capillaries along with other fatal wounds.Then he scans detected his heart stop and no more blood in the brain. He brought up the MechSoldier archive and listed Jackson Terrance KIA.

Eric lifted up his rifle and took off Jackson’s helmet. His head was a straight blond dyed hair. Eric aimed his rifle at his head and shot a beam. A hole was made, but no blood spilled.Then he turned to his pistol. He tuned the frequency to 12.9, the highest frequency in the pistol.Within two minutes, the gun would discharge and explode.This was standard procedure for the Mechsoldiers. In order to not risk the Hybrids from knowing what they are, the Mechsoldier must destroy the main computing devices along with the weapons.This was a burial for all Mechsoldiers.Their bodies must never be found and researched on, so they must vaporize.

Eric dropped the gun next to Jackson’s head and he ran as far away from the charged weapon before it discharges.He made it back to the wall again when he heard the explosion behind him. Eric’s heart skipped a beat, but he shook off his emotions. His attention should be on the war, not dying friends.

“Henry, this is Eric.Jackson is KIA. He had fatal wounds to the back. I followed the Backman protocol.”

“…Affirmative Eric.Now hurry to the nav point, ASAP.”

Eric hesitated for a moment.Jason and Jackson both did their duties.He started running to the nav point.Now it’s time I finished mine…
