Chapter 9: What’s wrong with him?

After what seems like forever, the commotion finally ended. I peek out from my changing stall. Eddie is still within close proximity.

“Psst… Ed… Ed… Come here.” My voice is barely audible.

“Good heavens. Everyone’s waiting for you. Can you please hurry a little Ki…”

“SSHHHH!” Thank God Eddie zip his mouth on time. He inch closer to me.

“Be honest Ed. Is Troy the one I’m gonna kiss?”

“Yes. Anything wrong?” Eddie quips. Oh my! Troy really is THE ONE!

“Hmm… I guess not… But you’ll have to address me strictly by my stage name today or I’ll leave now.” Sorry Ed, I wish I didn’t have to threaten you. I just cannot afford to let Troy even suspects I am Kiki.

“But why Ki... Sorry. Faith?”

“Well… It’s a personal reason. Just remember to call me FAITH” I widen my eyes to show Ed the gravity of the situation.

“Whatever you want, Faith. Just hurry up.”

“Ok. Ok. Ok. Can’t you see I’m already moving at my fastest speed?” Eddie is getting on my nerves again.

“Yup. Sure…” Sarcasm. Is that the best you can do Ed?!

To be honest, I am moving as slow as possible. I may as well be crawling over. Will I be able to kiss Troy? Do I even WANT to kiss him?

You are rather special.

Well… He did say I am special. Oh man… what am I thinking?! This is just another assignment. Yes! That’s all there is to it! Who am I trying to kid?! He’s just sitting there motionless and already my hormones are screaming for him!

Control Kiki! Control! Stupid stylist shouldn’t have placed so much effort into making him look so goddamn perfect! His hair is lightly waxed, curled and ruffled slightly in a way tempting all girls to stick their hands into his crown of black locks. There’s a hint of nude foundation on his already flawless face. Some bronzing cream has been applied to give him a beach-boy look – So playful, cheeky, sunshine… AND he’s looking my way…

“You’re late.” Troy’s words are curt. An unbearable aura of rage seems to surround him though his face is expressionless. I’ve heard rumours about Troy before. He is one talented model who gets everything perfect in the first take. All photographers adore him as he can change his expressions within a snap of the finger. Is this what he’s doing now? Anger is not written on his face but the atmosphere is so tense I can feel myself crumbling against this pressure.

“Sorry.” I manage to get my voice out.

“I can’t believe you are such a poor manager Eddie! Do you know how much Troy’s time is worth? Not forgetting his other shoot at 4 p.m.!” A thin man with rather unfortunate features standing beside me is practically shouting at Ed who is behind me. Ass! From his voice, I know he must be the one arguing outside my stall earlier on.

“Shut up! Who do you think you are? You’re nothing but a liar! Troy can’t be having a shoot at 4! Our shoot is to be taken at sunset!” I shout. Ha… thank God I’m alert. Good job Kiki!

Troy’s manager snaps around. He scrutinizes me with his beady eyes. Poor fellow… I thought he is unfortunate looking from his side profile but now that he’s looking at me face-on its worse. With a sharp jaw and sullen cheeks, he looks like someone who has suffered from sleepless nights. Good thing he finally zips his mouth. Eddie flashes me a thank-you glance.

“Well… As expected from a typical model. Flaring up just because your manager gets blamed? You’re awfully immature for a 21 year old, Faith.” Troy’s voice is so calm and filled with distaste that it hurts. I feel like a stupid kid throwing tantrums.

Why? Why is he so harsh on me?
